I had posted earlier and the thing disappeared when I hit submit. I didn't have time to write it all over again. I went out and caged up 8 more roosters and took them to town and picked up a prescription as well. So I apologize for not responding to everyone.
My buyer said he had someone else wanting roosters as well and wanted to know when I'd have more ready for butcher. I had 6 roosters go yesterday. It's sad that I have all these extra roos around here that I just can't sell for meat. They were too expensive as chicks in the first place or from expensive breeders and they are good quality birds that it would be insane to butcher. If the weather is more cooperative tomorrow I might see what I can do about figuring out who I need to sell and need to keep.
I don't know about where the rest of you are but the wind is totally insane here. Just as bad or worse than it was a couple days ago when it was blowing 50 MPH. I saw a 20 foot metal building completely turned upside down sitting on it's roof today. This is a steal framed building. I had thought about buying one of those but that kind of convinced me maybe I should just stick to the pole structure. There's something to be said for just buying something than waiting forever to get post holes drilled so you can build.
It also got extremely cloudy and gloomy out there. There wasn't any rain predicted but we could sure get some.
Danz, I can not dig post holes on my place. There is a reason I named it "Rocky Hill Farm"; There is only one rock but the farm sets on it. I don't dig fence post, I carve them! So far I haven't had any damage from the strong winds. I have them anchored and braced to steel post. Yes, I do drive steel post, but I have to split a crack in rock first. Its not a 5 minute job!.
I know exactly what you mean. Many times the auger on the tractor gets stuck on a rock and then we have to get on our hands and knees and try to dig out the auger by hand. I suppose if I had a huge tractor it would be easier. I can't lift the implements to get them on the tractor and DH won't do it for me because he doubts my ability to get the post hole in the right spot. Along with that he never gets around to it so I'm kind of stuck. If I could find one of those quick connect things to fit my tractor I would buy it in a heart beat.
I had use of a bobcat one summer and I managed to dig up huge piles of stones. Big stones. I lined a garden with them and have put them around a couple pens to keep predators out. I like my tractor but I can sure do a lot more with a Bobcat.
That wind got chilly out there. I sure hope tomorrow is a better day for the weather. I'd really like to get some work done outside without freezing or having to wear multiple layers of clothing.
I would love to have a bobcat to use here, I could find all kinds of uses for it.
Quote: Did someone say rocky??? Our posts won't stay straight up without pouring cement in the holes! We had rocky soil before we moved here and you needed a pick to plant a flower bulb. Now it is quite easy even with a stick as a tool. Rocks??? We have to buy them for landscaping or drive to another state or across the bay to find them on a back road somewhere. All we have here is dirty sand. We live with leaning pasture fences and continually having to straighten them back up. A few rocks wouldn't be so bad.
Danz....I have searched this site for someone having Oldansks. The only thing I have found references you. Do you actually have those and if so, do you ever sell hatching eggs?
I did have some but sold them this summer. I am sending you a PM for the person who bought them. They strangely enough lay bettter in winter so she may actually have some.Did someone say rocky???
