I have a Kitchenaid & I love it. I have the pro model but only because I got a good deal in it. I want to get some more attachments for it later too.

I do too Trish. Mine is an extra large capacity one. Only problem is it is slightly taller and doesn't fit under my cabinets. If you buy some extra stuff for it try the food grinder. It's amazing. You can grind things like tomatoes etc to make salsa. Stuff to make chicken salad or something, stuff for deserts, and I have been grinding my excess steak to make ground beef with mine. It's one of the least expensive attachments and probably has more use than most of them.
I started making home made bread with my mixer and I sold my bread maker. This works so much better.

you can tell its a nice day out, since its so quiet around here :)

I was wondering if any of you guys have to follow a gluten free diet like I do? I have been doing it for almost 1 1/2 years now. My goal is to learn how to bake my own gluten free breads.....Which leads me to looking for a good stand mixer. Anyone have any advice on brands, and such? I know that Kitchen Aid and Bosch are great brands, but not sure about others!

I use a bread machine. It works great. I had to practice a bit on mixes to get a consistency I like. I have dermatitus herpetiformis that sometimes goes with it...also called Duhrings disease. As I have gotten older both are worse. My only child to have it too is my daughter and she never had symptoms until her first pregnancy. Mine has been lifelong.

I really need some advice here - One of my hens has been seriously broody and tonight one of the chicks hatched; there are still 7 eggs under her. The nest box is about 2 feet off the ground - Is it ok for me to move her, the chick and other eggs to the corner of the coop in a box turned sideways? I just don't want to upset her and have her abandon the chick/eggs.

Danz that sounds like a useful attachment, I'll have to look into getting one of those.

SHNCARSON-my son and I are gluten free, he has Phelan McDermid syndrome and gets reflux when he eats it and I just feel better when I avoid it. I love my kitchen aide, because there are so many of them out there it is really easy to get attatchments or replacemen parts if you ever need to.More power too ya on the gf-bread ,let me know if you find a recipe that works. I've found some nice GF flour blends that have been nice to work with and have made some great muffins, cakes and pie crusts but have never been able to get the "chewy /stretch " that I needed for a yeast bread.
I think we got our first duck egg today. What do any of you folks like to do with duck eggs ?I remember some of you talking about the salted duck eggs but are there other things you guys do with them ?

Ok , well never mind that last part, I was just looking up duck eggs and found that just about everyone loves to bake with them and that they are really great for gluten free baking. Yay for serendipity !

I bought some from a friend to bake with and I could not figure out if that was what was making my stomach upset, so I backed off. I might need tot ry again! It was nice! They say it makes stuff more fluffy

I am finding that we all have a lot in common, from gluten free to autoimmune disorders.....interesting, maybe those things make for good chicken keepers!

We are heading to wichita today to take our kids to The Alley, they have un-limited bowling, go-karts, and laser tag! Enjoy your day everyone!

22zooQ I love them just for eating like you would a chicken egg. They are so much bigger and are so much richer. When we cook eggs for a meal I always use the duck eggs if available. Any recipe that calls for egg will greatly improve with duck eggs.
Well the forecast sucks! It's going to be cooler and windy again today and then the rest of the week the bottom drops out again. This girl is getting cabin fever!!! Granted I get out .... I have to but just dealing with the cold and working out there is miserable. It reflects back inside as well cause I get so depressed and then I don't want to do anything in here either except bundle up and drink coffee.
The worst part is I spend too much time on the computer which means I find things to buy!!!!
I had a power supply go out on one of the incubators. What a mess. I can't find an exact replacement. I did find one made for a computer that is the same brand that would work but it doesn't list the size of the attachment that goes in it so I don't know if it would work or not. The unit is still under warranty but I don't have the original receipt which is something you have to have. I bought this one from Deerfield and didn't get that. I had moved the eggs to my pro unit and it's the only other one I have that is computer run. I need to check to see if it has the same adapter but that means taking it apart. I'd have to fire up a third incubator in order to keep the eggs good cause it takes a while to break this thing all down. What a mess.
