Consolidated Kansas

I wish I could get some free labor for my birthday. At my age people don't even think about it! I've had so many!!
Just don't let yourself get attached to those cornish or you won't be able to butcher them. They aren't pleasant to raise either because they eat more so they poop more and stink more.
I've got to go back to the dentist again today. These trips are taking their toll. Too bad I couldn't get a dentist locally that knew what they were doing. I need to pick up some more shavings, chick starter, and some bean seeds while I am there. I hope to get the trailer and the brooder cleaned out today so I can make some more room and do a head count on chicks left. I am wanting to make a big sale and need to figure out how many chicks I have for this guy.

Yeah we moved them to their own brooder box yesterday. It has helped a lot. Can't wait for two more weeks so they can be outside instead of in my bathroom. Lol! But its the best draft proof (I like ceiling fans) room that's away from our dogs.
Man I hate the dentist. Typically avoid them like the plague unless I have a problem tooth. I'm bad about that.

I really hate going to the dentist as well. Nothing hurts me more than mouth pain. Unfortunately it got to the point I had to go and have a lot of work done. This dentist is very careful though. The one I grew up with was a butcher!!! I only had one cavity as a child and I think it was because I would rather have been beaten than go to him. So I made sure to keep care of my teeth. I've had many problems in recent years though because I have a milk allergy so I never got enough nutrients to build good tooth structure. I also grind my teeth relentlessly so that has destroyed them even more.
Adamsheather123, be sure to take the time to enjoy your other chicks. I hatch thousands of chicks every year, and I miss being able to take the time just to watch their silly antics. They can be so stinking cute.

Yeah last night watching my ducks block the EEs from getting to their new perch was hilarious. So my husband and I took the ducks out for a little snuggle time so the chicks could figure out how to use it. Lol! There were so mad when we put them back in the brooder for the night. Sillies!!!

Those ducks will make a big wet mess in your brooder as they get bigger. I have 3 in mine right now that have to get out of there today. I took a big pile of wet shavings out & replaced them & later when I have time I have to put them in their own place. They play in the water too much & you don't want your chicks to get wet or to have mold in there, it's not healthy for them & you could lose them.

Yeah I'm going to be making them their own space today. I've already changed their bedding twice in 24 hrs. Not a big deal I love taking care of them but dang dudes. Quit!

Minneapolis, KS here! More specifically across from Ottawa State Fishing Lake. Just got my first chicks and two ducklings this past Friday for my birthday which is this coming Friday. Going to be starting our coop and run this weekend. Trying to wait till it isn't raining so my concrete will actually set up. We had chickens when I was young but I never paid attention to the inner workings of the whole process so I'm sure I'll be asking lots of advice from you guys since you're local and understand the wonderful Kansas weather.

Welcome!

I'm curious... has anyone ever tried freezing eggs? Right now, I have an overabundance of eggs, and I have been selling my extras, but then in the fall/winter, I have to buy eggs from the store. If I could save the extras for later use, it would seem to make more sense. However, I have learned that not everything I see on pinterest works. Anyone tried this before? Does it work or is it a waste of my time?

I've never frozen them whole or anything. In fact, I've only ever frozen yolks, left over from making angel food cake. I know you're supposed to add something to them if it's just yolks -- a bit of sugar or salt. I made pudding with the frozen yolks and it turned out fine. I'd like to hear from someone who has frozen and then used whole eggs. Not that I have an overabundance problem.

Coop has been picked up and paid for. I love it when stuff sells fast.

How nice that it happened so quickly.

I babysat my niece's ducks when they were little. They are hugely messy!

Rehoming the one duck has apparently fixed the problem at my SIL's. The other two younger ones are no longer picking on the older one. The one she rehomed was picked on by the ducks at that house and has ended up spending most of his time with the chickens.

Welcome! We talk and discuss just about anything here. I see that you have had a couple of ducklings and a few chicks already. How cute!

I have never tried it before but did think about it since I need more eggs in the winter but that's when the birds usually lay sparingly. If you try it, please let us know how it turns out.
