Consolidated Kansas

Sounds good I'll check those out when I pick out my new babies. Maybe get a couple of each. I'm ready for it to be warm. Only thing I got accomplished today was cleaning out my hubbys shop so I have a place to store my coop building supplies. This weekend is supposed to be really warm so hoping to get a lot done. Its my bday weekend so everyone has to do what I say which means lots of free labor. Mwahahahaha!

Happy birthday! I don't get free labor here and with my husband's busy schedule, he will only help out when he can. Make sure you build a coop bigger than what you have in mind. You always need more room for more birds. That's how the chicken math works. Ask people on this forum and I'm sure they will agree with this statement. LOL ... When it comes to building chicken coop, bigger is better.

I really hate going to the dentist as well. Nothing hurts me more than mouth pain. Unfortunately it got to the point I had to go and have a lot of work done. This dentist is very careful though. The one I grew up with was a butcher!!! I only had one cavity as a child and I think it was because I would rather have been beaten than go to him. So I made sure to keep care of my teeth. I've had many problems in recent years though because I have a milk allergy so I never got enough nutrients to build good tooth structure. I also grind my teeth relentlessly so that has destroyed them even more.
Adamsheather123, be sure to take the time to enjoy your other chicks. I hatch thousands of chicks every year, and I miss being able to take the time just to watch their silly antics. They can be so stinking cute.

I will have to agree that going to dentist is a chore to me. But I do have a good one now so it is not as bad. I keep telling my kids to make sure they brush and clean their teeth daily or the dentist will have to drill holes and fill them due to cavities. I think I sound like a broken record to them now. LOL ... I hope your trip to the dentist went well this time.

Yeah these two were for my daughter. It won't be something we continue although they are pretty sweet.
Ducks are great but not in the brooder stage. The beauty of it is they only need about 3 weeks of brooding. I like to let my ducks free range in the yard and just shut them up at night. Then you don't end up with the mud and the mess or the smell from them. They are awesome bug eaters and I think do a better job eating bugs than even the guineas do.
I lost a little gold laced imported orpington this morning. It was like she just gave up. I tried to treat here for about everything but she just wouldn't thrive. She was 3 months old and still as small as a 6 week old chick.
I'm not feeling good today. I think it's my allergies. Running just a little fever.
The trip to the dentist was an easy one. Just some rubber stuff to make a form for a partial. No pain....just time.
I got some shavings, chick starter, and bean seed as planned. I stopped at Braum's and picked up some ice cream on sale. My excuse is I don't have to chew it!!!
I guess I should get out and get busy on the brooder.

I've been quite busy lately due to the server upgrade project I'm on at work. Also the latest zero day bug in Internet Explorer had us (my company) scrambling to make sure our software is "zero day" proof. I think I hit my 40-hr work week by mid day Wednesday! What a week!

My birds are now giving me quite a few eggs daily. My husband has been using them as gifts to his customers when he gets big jobs from them so we really don't have very many left between the egg customers and his work customers. But I do have plenty of duck eggs and with me not baking much lately due to my busy work schedule, they really start to pile up in the pantry. I think I'll do another round of salted duck eggs and give some to a couple of friends who enjoy ducks eggs. Maybe when my project wraps up at the end of the month I'll have more time to bake some cake and bread.

Today's breeze is much more tolerable (only 16 mph right now... not 60 mph!!!). I'm really looking forward to tomorrow because there was no windy advisory in the forecast! The temperature is also going to climb up as well... which means most of my plants that overwinter in the plant room can now go out in the shade to get acclimated to the warmer weather. But brace yourself because it looks like we are heading straight into Summer and skip Spring entirely. The temp for Sunday to Tuesday look to be in the 90s. Ooi... give me my Spring!

I think I'll start moving my precious little eggplant seedlings and Asian sweet melon seedlings out tomorrow in the shade to get them hardened off. I hope come next weekend they will be able to go into the ground and start growing!

Have a great day everyone!

I second what Danz said about ducklings in the brooder. They were really messy and stinky. I had almost forgotten about the brooder stage until I read what Danz said. LOL... It seemed like a long time ago since I had the ducklings from you, Danz. But I do love them. They are awesome and sometimes they try to talk to me, especially when I was standing by the gate and didn't go into the pen. They would "honk" at me and making all sorts of noises... seemed like they were wondering why I would just stand there and not go in to give them food. I also love to see them swim in the kiddie pool, diving into the water and grooming themselves.

I'm so sorry to hear about your baby. It seems its so much easier to become attached to animals than some humans. I'm glad to hear she has found peace though. I'm also glad to hear your dentist appt went well.

I'm so tired of winter I don't even mind the skipped spring. I'm thankful that when I do move all my babies they will be plenty warm. We have science fairs tonight no fun for me. Tomorrow I get to start my coop. So very excited!!!

I babysat my niece's ducks when they were little. They are hugely messy!

Rehoming the one duck has apparently fixed the problem at my SIL's. The other two younger ones are no longer picking on the older one. The one she rehomed was picked on by the ducks at that house and has ended up spending most of his time with the chickens.

Cherwill... glad the duck issue was resolved. All my ducks are with the chickens daily. Some chickens act like they are ducks... just hilarious...

I lost one of my big black Cochin hens this afternoon. I was on my way to the car for a trip to the grocery store when I noticed that she was prolapsed. So I tried to catch her to get her to warm water. When I caught her by the foot she strained and everything came out. She died before my husband could get home to help me get her to the vet. It makes me super sad when I can't fix their boo boos. :he

I'm sorry friendshipstar. I've never had a hen prolapse thank heavens. I have walked someone through pushing it back inside before though and the bird healed successfully and is now laying again. I had them put her on penicillin G immediately which might have helped some.
I've been working out in the trailer this afternoon and getting it cleaned up so I can move chicks in there. I was hoping to have it done and disinfected and have the brooder house cleaned too. At least the trailer is done. Tomorrow I need to find the time to sort chicks and move a bunch out there. I have over loaded bins. I hatched some more today and every bird is super crowded.
I have someone coming in the morning to get turkey poults. I had sold them peafowl a few months ago. They are very happy with them and now want to try their hand at turkeys. That should lighten the load a little bit.

My broody hen, Copper, moved her 3 babies (with my help) into the big girls coop. They didn't like the ramp, but she went in and just kept calling them until I could usher them in. She insisted that they all sleep on the top roost. I tried to move them, but she was determined. I hope they are all ok in the morning. There just wasn't room under her for 3 big chicks on the roost.
