We got two new ducklings yesterday! Meet Honey (Cayuga) and Lemon (Khaki Campbell)

@KsKingBee - I'll let @chicken danz answer as well, but I was shocked at the price the peafowl were going for. I watched for 45 minutes or so and didn't see one go for under $100, most were $150+. There was one cage with four pea's in it, seems like they were all white. It went for around $130 (don't remember exact price)... that was a $500 cage being taken off the table.

Also heard that Leavenworth County does now have a poultry quarantine. Specific details on Monday. Can't find it online but was talking to a gal who is interfacing with KS Dept of Ag. We'll see if she's right.

Had a sad parting today... rehomed my broody raised chicks out to a country home. One of those girls kept getting in my neighbors' yard. That's not a huge deal, but since they're broody raised they avoid me like the plague. Took 10+ minutes to catch her each time. It was very stressful on her and I was afraid she was going to get hurt if we continued this form of recreational exercise between the two of us. So, they went to a good home. That's how my luck works... let broody hen raise three babies... one is a male and the other two don't work in the city. I fed three birds for 18 weeks and have nothing to show for it! :-( Boy have I nailed this chicken raising process...

I called ahead to a buddy of mine that was there, he told me he was surprised too. I was late getting away from the State Bee Meeting and after finding out that there were no birds like i was looking for and that the prices were high I didn't need to spend that gas money for the short amount of auction that was left. He told me about the whites, said that they were yearlings to boot.

Auction fever at it's best.

Wow if I was there I was have bid on those, but would have probably driven the price up singlehandedly! That seems to be the way things go. I am not finding white hens anywhere, wouldn't mind raising some up and selling off the males, keeping the hens if there were any. I have been watching cl and gee, many fold wanting $150 for 9 month old India blue. I did see one blue shoulder peacock hen in Sioux city. ;). Bets that's a rare bird indeed.
Gotta love craigslist!

Look on CL for my listing in the Wichita area and tell me what you think of my prices. Actually I would like for anyone to do that, I am interested in opinions here.

@chicken danz what was the buzz at Gardner?
Prices were high on everything and kept getting higher as the day went on. The last two pea hens that sold went for $210 each. They were just black shoulder too. I really wanted one peahen but it was early on and it went to $150 instantly. These were just 2014 stock too.

Yesterday was a long but enjoyable day. I was pretty miserable at the beginning cause it was so cold. but as the day wore on things got better. Got to visit with lots of old friends from in and out of state. I had to come home and feed and water and by dark I was just ready to crash. My back was bothering me and I had a sciatic nerve pinched so just moving was painful. I am going to have to join the older people that bring their chairs cause climbing up the bleachers is getting harder all the time. I hate getting old!!!
