Consolidated Kansas

Still nothing hatched. He's peeping at me since yesterday evening. Do I need to get worried yet? I did help him with a little hole so he could breathe. Was that a bad move? I've been trying to watch the humidity really close so the membrane doesn't dry out. He doesn't really seem to be working on his shell much..

@chickenrookie - That's really too bad. They are probably concerned that your birds will affect their houses' ability to sell. My new neighbors, when they heard about our birds said, "Wow, now that's something fun I could get into."

I could probably take a few of the orps if needed. But, I also know that putting spare birds on CL for real cheap will move them as well. Chickens are in right now which makes rehoming the girls easy.

I picked up some Buff Orps from a CL ad in Harrisonville awhile ago that I didn't think were healthy on observation. Put them on CL for free, had calls within minutes.

I think it's still too early. What day is this? some birds pip really early and they will often die if you interfere cause they haven't absorbed their yoke.

Maybe it's all CL ad wording... like the recent one that was advertising pullet roosters.... perhaps your chances of getting eggs from them is higher than the straight rooster?

It's Day 20 on these eggs. I had another one pipped this morning. I'll leave them and check after my eye Dr apt this afternoon.

Oh Yeah ZigZag. I forgot about those rooster pullets.

I wouldn't worry about it yet, they're still early. I wouldn't worry till it's after day 21. I still have chicks hatch on day 22. Every day after day 21 though there is less chance they're going to hatch. I agree with Danz, if you mess with it you may lose the chick because it's not ready.

Well I ended up helping the little guy hatch. He pipped the wrong end and couldn't zip. His membrane was almost dried out and he needed some help. He's now bumbling around in the bator. It looks like all the ones that have pipped are pipping the smaller end of the egg. :( what causes that?

Thanks for the offer of chicks, chicken danz. I might do a road trip soon and get some. I don't get home til Monday afternoon and leaving here Sunday night so it's going to be a dreadfully long night/day.
I will have to let u know.
