Consolidated Kansas

Danz, I planted cabbage, tomatoes and peppers, spinach, cucumbers, squash, and kale a few days earlier. It absolutely takes me forever but I just don't give up. I sit down when I have to and then get back to it. People driving by probably think all I do is sit in my lawn chair!

I am actually moving my strawberries from my patch on the ground to the raised beds. It will be so much easier to keep the weeds out of them. I have about a million more to move but that won't be necessary to fill all my raised beds. Next year I may make that entire original garden area strawberries. Then I will have plenty for canning, freezing, the kids and the chickens! Remember the grape vines around the pool? By the end of summer last year we didn't can or juice much and it smelled like wine out there! So now I will be overrun with grapes, strawberries and chickens. That seems like a good thing to me! I want to can my own salsa this year. We plan to do a ton of canning this year. We'll see how that goes.

Prairie Fleur, that is so odd, sorry you had this difficulty with your hatch but maybe they will all make it out yet.

Trish44, glad you finally got some rain. Our grass was crunchy, it was so dry here. I'm happy to see it greening up.

Poor prairie is having to do an intensely assisted hatch due to my weird birds! She is doing outstanding!

I think there was only a couple that were not malpositioned. :idunno

And my orps usually require assist because they are so huge in the shell they usually can pip but not zip. So she is getting hands on training!!!

And Prairie, no normally hatching is NOT this hard, ok? I am feeling kind of bad about it. :(

Can anyone tell me what breed this is? It's 8 days old now. The guy gave it to us as a white leghorn, but then we saw the feathers on its feet....

thndrdancr, Try not to feel bad about Prairie Fleur's hatch. That's just the way it goes with hatching. It is unusual, yes, but lot's of unusual things happen when hatching. This one just hasn't happened to me, but lots of other disheartening things have. Prairie Fleur is doing a great job with her challenge and life is still good. I've always felt the chicks I had to work harder for were more special to me.

:hugs hey! Don't feel bad! :) I need experience and I already have 4 happy and by all appearances healthy babies. 1 little banty and 1 LF that pipped the wrong end both managed to zip and be ok. So far I've helped half of them and they're all doing fine! :D I was sure that None of them would hatch for me just because I was the one who stuck them in the bator! Lol it looks like I should have several more babies tomorrow yet. And this Was a test hatch after all! I'm still trying to figure out the best way to keep humidity even and temp etc! I'm fortunate to have you and Danz and everyone on here that are so willing to answer all my newbie questions!

Thank you, Deerfield. I am probably pestering her to death via text! She sure will have learned a lot though. :)

I do love visiting here in Hawaii but I am anxious to get my garden in at home. I hate it just lying fallow. Although that stupid white peacock has taught ALL my birds (chickens and peas) to raid the garden! They never did this before. I was blessed with my sweet Petey and White Lightning. :(. He is a gorgeous bird but Angel is a misnomer!!! He wanders, has got my babies following him down the street etc. dratted bid!

I am either going to have to rehome him or keep his tail at home. I don't want to rehome him ! Idiot bird!

Here are some updates pictures of the girls (and a boy or 2)
Brought them home March 8th and they are growing greatly fast.

One of my Bantams has a real dark red comb while my other Bantam has a light one.

The 2 cornish are getting real big, planning on butchering 1st weekend of May with them.

Don't remember which breed this one is.

The I'm guessing is a rooster

Trying to remember, think this is one of my Americanas

This little lady like to hop on my arm while working in the run & coop.

The 2 cornish

Anderson, very pretty birds. Hold out hope for the barred rock or Dominique, not sure which. My Lily looked like a boy almost til the time she laid eggs, she looks a lot like mine did. I see hen right now with that picture.
