The things you should look for are:

1) Is she laying? Is her vent white and dry, or pink and wet?

2) Is she swollen below the vent, sort of a pendulus belly?

3) Has she had any accidents, or does she have a long drop to a hard surface in/around the coop?

4) Have you looked closely at her feet for knobby foot pads or black spots?

Regarding eggs, this is what I have left:

I have eggs from my Isabel/Gold Laced Orp project, and then in bantams I have Silkies (B/B/S, Blue Partridge, White, Lavender), Faverolles (Lav Project and Salmon), Cochins (B/B, Mottled, Fizzled), Raraku and Mapuche. You'll have to search some of those out on the web, but you can find info on my BYC page and on old auctions of mine.

I have just a few from the Blue Orps, and maybe some Seramas...I'll have to look.

Let me know!

If only this was a week ago, I would love to have some of the silkies and are the cochins frizzled or is fizzled something else. I have eggs under the broody for about a week now.

I dont want to count my chickens before they hatch but I see babies in almost all the eggs you gave me Renee, the only ones I cant see through is the big green ones, what a big difference over having eggs shipped! Im so use to only about 50-75% making it lol, again thanks so much

My pleasure!

Schellie, I started some eggs of nearly every type late on the 3rd, so if you'll be in the area, I could pull some from the incubator fo you to stuff under her. That would get you nearly there!

Thanks but I don't think I will be in the area for a while. I will see if I get another broody who has eggs. This is her 1st time and I am always nervous when its a hen's first broody I want to see how she does. Now if my EE bantam goes broody I will being seeing if you have any hatching eggs. I just need to add a few green egg layers to my flock. My daughter wants silkies so we shall see my EE will more then likely go broody in June/July thats when she went broody last year. I did put the eggs under my broody on the 3rd to.

This has been my broodiest year ever- a total of 11 since we started this calendar year, and I think once more of my banty Cochins flipped on me last night- which makes it all but one of my Cochin girls...and I have a bunch of them!!

I am not so upset about her, though, because I have a ton of eggs to set and no room to cook them! I'm thinking about candling what's there right now (nearly 200) to see if I can toss any to make room...there are a few pullet bullets in there I don't expect to be fertile. I'm considering buying another 'rinkydinkubator' to use Ivywoods's FABULOUS term.

I'm also considering putting hubby on the task of making me a cabinet today so I can gut an LG and make a medium cabinet-bator. I think that will be the plan...it's Mommys' Day, right?!?

Yep Its mothers day, I think a cabinet-bator would be cool. I don't have an incubator just broodys I need a farm so I can have my wish list of breeds I want. The only problem with having broody's and no incubator it is hard knowing when they will go broody to get hatching eggs. Maybe next year I will wait and then order some hatching eggs. Right now my goal is to get a few marans and some green egg layers. I love having so many different color eggs in my basket. I did lose my only big blue egg layer which upsets me but I do get 3 bantam blue eggs. I hope every one has a great Mother's day.
