Consolidated Kansas

I'm sure glad we didn't get snow here, but we have gotten quite a bit of rain so it's muddy everywhere. It has been chilly here too, I agree I'm ready for a little bit warmer weather & some sun. It's been cloudy about every day. I've been concerned about my chicks out in the growout pen with these cold nights but they have learned to go into the igloo dog house at night & cuddle together, so there are enough of them to keep warm. They seem to be as happy as ever. I went out yesterday afternoon & watched them for awhile, they're so much fun to watch running & flying around in there. I stuffed some hay behind the dog houses so they wouldn't get stuck back there & not be able to get out because the corner of the pen is behind both of them. Now they just fly up & sit on top of the hay & look out of the pen. I had some small pallets in the pen that I had used one night to shut them in the dog houses before they learned to go in but I had to take them out because they learned to fly up on top of them & one escaped the pen because they were above the hardware cloth that goes around the bottom, little smarties.

Yesterday was a crazy day. I intended to clean house since it was cold out but never had a single moment to even begin. I put an add on facebook for my sabastopol goslings and spent hours answering messages. I'll know better next year. As soon as they begin hatching I'm putting up adds. I won't be holding goslings for sure if it's like yesterday was. Now I have way more orders than I can fill. I do have older ones that people are interested in but I had to order shipping boxes and I can't get a price until the boxes get here for the shipping so some of those might change their mind after getting a shipping price.
I'm very anxious though cause my birds are so overcrowded right now.
Maybe I should change my strategy and start shipping chicken chicks on line.
I'm about done with the locals. I'm so tired of getting blamed when someone has no idea how to raise chicks.
It's funny that all my knowledgable customers are really happy with my birds.

Gosh, it sure has been fairly quiet on here! Our weather has turned nice again. Today's high is forecast to be about 60*F with a light breeze and sunny. WAY nicer than the last few days!

Danz, how do I find ya on Facebook?
I will send you a pm.

It's very chilly here. It was supposed to be warmer but it's cloudy and chilly.
I've been busy again today. I took eggs from the geese that were sitting other than 4 of them who are very very insistent they stay put. Then I corralled all the rest and put them back in their pen. I think my dogs have been eating goose eggs and right now I can't afford that. They probably only have another month to lay anyway before they quit for the year.
I had a peahen with down wings this morning. That is a bad sign in peafowl. So I caught her and gave her a dose of calcium and wormer. Hopefully she will straighten out and lay her egg.
I have got to get some more turkey sold soon. It seems I have hatched a bunch so far. They are so much noisier than chicken chicks.

Moving back into the house today has been as crazy as moving out was the night of the fire but as stressful as it is its so good to be back home in our house with all our feathers furred and quilled children.

I had another chick die this morning, the first in a while. It too had its feathers fluffed up last night and I freaked out. I tried giving it just a little bit of Corid and it drank it fine, but wasn't eating or drinking otherwise. It was probably just too far gone, and I don't think it was one of the ones I had treated. I have not been feeding medicated feed because my Dad says it's too expensive and the regular feed will be fine. Also, I'm broke from all of the replacement chicks, medication, and feed. I went ahead and put the Corid in the water for the rest of the chicks that were in the same pen as this chick when it died.

Should I treat some new ones I just got on Saturday? They are separate from the rest of the bigger ones, but they have been introduced to them.

I took a few pics of my coop and my birds for a friend today (before my camera died on me). I thought I'd share a few here:

Duck house/run (left) and chicken coop/run (right):

Any ideas on breed/gender on these birds?

White rock?

Easter Egger? This bird has "muffs", and I have 2 that look like this.

Cochin? What's this color called? I have 2 like this. I think I might have a male and a female of these, but that's just going off of comb color. :)

Cochin? I have 2 like this.

Phoenix? I have 2 like this and a 3rd that is this size and similar in coloring but not quite the same (2 females and a male, I'm guessing but I have no idea what I'm talking about

Easter Egger?

Are the 2 black/white ones cuckoo marans?
