Lol Danz very true...

Soo what happened was I got 3 beautiful chicks from Danz and as I was heading back out to my friend Heather Farm which is right outside of Cameron Mo so since we had to pass my home on the way to her's I called my neighbor and asked her if she would take the chicks and set them up with food and water at her house and then just stick them under Sapphire tonight when she was asleep. However my neighbor thought I met her to go and take Sapphire chicks away from her and give them food and water at her home then sticking them back under Sapphire last night....so yea we got to my house and I started setting everything up for the Juv birds that I had also got from Danz and left the chicks in the little cat carrier in front of my coop/garage door. So then after a bit I realized I was seeing Sapphire but none of her chicks so with a panic heart going a million beats a minute Heather, Jane and I start searching everywhere and there is NO Sign of her chicks anywhere and after about 30 minutes of looking and with Sapphire calling her chicks and the 3 new chicks I brought answering her we brought the carrier over to her and opened the door and all three chicks charged out and too Sapphire who immediately started Mother Hening them when Heather asked could maybe your neighbor misunderstood and took Sapphire chicks to her house instead? I said no I don't think so but maybe she knows something so I look in her backyard and yep there is her bright blue brooder tote with a netting top and I can hear the peeps of new chicks so I go over and look JUST to make sure there are Sapphire's chicks and not that she had decided to grab some chicks. And sure enough there they all 4 are looking beyond ****** and let me tell you 2 wk old chicks can give you the murder look without a problem. So talked with her amd two we had gotten our wires crossed and she was like i couldn't believe you wanted me to take her chicks I definitely thought you had lost your mind but then I have thought that before about things you do for your chicks but then I have found out that is what you Should do soo I just did it. After we had a good laugh she told me it did take her over 2o mine to catch them as they were loose all over there yards cause while their Mother and everyone else was restrained in the chicken tunnels they are small enough to go wherever they wanted and while Sapphire was of course calling them to her like most kids they were ignoring her. Which met after we got all the chicks back into the coop we closed them up in there with everyone but Sapphire out in the chickens pens. And when my neighbor went back to let all the chickens back into the coop two chicks were lost in the coop and once she grabbed them and brought them over where they could see Sapphire they jumped out of her hands and ran up and under Sapphire.

So that was yesterday fun and currently we are driving back from Heather farm in this cool rain and I will let everyone know if everyone is under Sapphire or if there are problems but I don't think there will be.

We got hard rain twice last night & it rained again this morning. It should be nice & slick out there today to go do chores. At least it waited till I got everything fed yesterday before it started.

@chicken danz don't pigs have quite the personalities! I saw your post on FB about him getting into the paint, silly pig. You'll have to fix his pen so he can't get out if you don't want a big mess. They're quite capable of getting into quite a lot of trouble. They are funny characters though.

I just have a couple of things I want to get done today out around & in my pens & then I think I have everything in order for now till I get ready to winterize out there. That involves putting up plastic & tarps on the north sides of pens.

I had a little Mille Fleur Leghorn rooster that is 3 months old brought to me from Oklahoma a few days ago. He is the sweetest little rooster I have ever had. He is not crazy flighty like leghorns usually are & the rooster I just sold was like that. He went absolutely nuts if I came into the pen for any reason. He was gorgeous but just not approachable. I hated to sell him but he was not the right color for my hens.

It was great to meet Danz yeaterday! She has so many beautiful birds. I took home 5 nice pullets, an orpington, two brahmas, an aracauna, and breda. They're doing really well and getting acclimated to their new home. I'm happy that our lonely hen has some buddies now. Their run is probably swamped with all the rain last night, but hopefully the weather will clear up soon.

Trish the pen is secure but I didn't have the gate latched tight enough so he squeezed out of it. He does a lot of rooting but hasn't tried to root out any where. I'm sure he knows that is where I let him out when I do. I just left him out the rest of the day. He was on his good behavior until he found me painting!

I'm postponing getting outside. It's still sprinkling. I know what a nasty muddy mess it will be out there. I know that the birds are hungry though so I guess I'll head out shortly. I'm waiting to see if a person is coming down today to look at a dining set I have for sale or not.

Well I thought what happened yesterday had Sapphire adopting the new chicks but last night my neighbor said she had to find two of them by their peeps which I guessed were the Speckled that are use to just cuddling under any hen but then this morning I found all 3 of the newbies cuddled together in a tight little corner where no chicken could get to them I placed the Little Lavender chick near Sapphire chicks and while the chicks were find with their new "sib" Sapphire started peaking her and the Lavender chick came running to be too excape her. Soo no biggie I threw together a "small" brooder don't need my huge one for 3 chicks and we will just raise them in the house.

Aw Darn! I was hoping that was going to be a real success story!
I did too much chicken wrangling yesterday. I am really sore today. Got the birds fed, and treated a peacock that had his wings down. He was really skinny when I picked him up. Hope the worming does the trick. That's an important pen. I'll have to watch the rest of them. I did put more wormer in their water but not sure it will treat them all because the ground is so wet and they hate that stuff. I need to go back out soon and fill the waterers in the brooder again.
I ran some extension cords I had taken down but don't have them hooked up. It's going to be time to plug in heated water bowls before long. I dread that. I hope it's nice long fall with no cold temps.

Brrrr, today was chilly. After it being so hot it was kind of a shock to the system today. I kept moving while I was out feeding & did OK with it but when I stopped it got a bit chilly. It's such a shock to have such a cool day like that out of the blue. I noticed some of my birds were kind of huddled up early in the day too. They moved around more in the afternoon though.

Yeah it was quite a temp swing from the hot day before. Pretty chilly last night. They predicted 49 as the low and it was 47 when I got up this morning. They even changed 80 for tomorrow to 79 degrees. If it will dry up it will be a nice week. Of course I have a ton of things to do this week.

ok, so I'm so sad, just got a call from my hubby at home. I guess the neighbor's dog got our rooster

I'm so sad. We've only had chickens for 4 months now, just got our first egg yesterday! and now "Chuck" is gone. I didn't really even think I liked him that much, but apparently I did. We have not found the body, but feathers in the neighbor's yard and can't find Chuck anywhere. The 7 girls we have are wandering around aimlessly. Sad day.
Anyone know where I can get another tame rooster near the Wichita area? Ours was a silver laced Wyandotte, and was BEAUTIFUL and sweet, well, at least he was friendly and good with my boys.....

thanks!

4BoyMama, the Kansas Farm Animal Swap is loaded with roosters free and cheap right now. BYC doesn't allow us to post the link, but if you search that name on Facebook, it will pop right up. Alternately, I have a gorgeous heritage New Hampshire Red rooster I was going to butcher because he is excess, so I could let him go pretty cheap as well. I'm not far from Wichita. Send me a PM if you're interested. I'm sorry for your loss.
