Consolidated Kansas

@LoveMyChickenBabies welcome. Tell us about your birds & your setup. We like to see new people here.

For our chicks we have a converted rabbit hutch that does very well, it once even stood up to a raccoon pulling on the wire trying to get to them. When they hit one month we transfer them to a small coop in the front yard where we can keep an eye on them. Once they hit two months, we start free ranging them while keeping a close eye for a week, and if everything goes right then we don't need to supervise them anymore and then they are on there own (but with a rooster of course). Once we get new chicks and they are ready to be transferred to that coop then we take them out of there and put them with all the others in the big coop in our backyard.

What breeds of chickens do you have?

Do you know Rosie Heistand, Susie Fitzsimmons, or Lori Falkenstien? Those are people I know from down around your area. My brother was the plant manager at the electric generating company in Baxter Springs for a year or so before it sold. Sounds like you have quite a managerie of birds and sizes.

I have buff orphingtons, RIR, White leghorn, Tons of mixes, Cochins, bantams, silkies, Bearded d'uccle, Turkey, and some others that I don't know the breed names of.
You sound like me, I have a mixture of breeds in my main coop. I just like to have a variety for eggs & yard decoration, lol. I raise quite a few different breeds so I have lots of pens of pure breeds. It's fun having different breeds & seeing what traits each one has.

It is a lot of fun having mixtures! I love to see the unique colors and patterns in their feathers.

I don't know any of those people. I have only lived in my area for around eightish years.
