Consolidated Kansas

Ever get down near Winfield?
I generally have eggs. My adult hens are BA's, Jersey Giants, and a single Jersey Giant x RIR (as well as a Biel, but I won'tset her eggs). My boys are both a Jersey Giant x RIR back-cross to the RIR. They're brothers, the JGxRIR hen is their aunt.

If your hen just went broody, getting eggs on the 28th might not be a good option. Probably better to go for chicks at that point.

Has she committed? If I started a batch if eggs today hatch day should be the 1st, but I don't want to waste the eggs if she doesn't commit.

I could probably also get eggs for Biel x BA x JG x RIR mix.

Today is day two of sitting, she slept in the nest box last night as far as I can tell.
I’m not sure eggs on the 28th would work out either. I also don’t want you to waste eggs if she isn’t going to see this thing through. I appreciate the offer though!

Well, hatching is seriously addictive and I just finished the last hatch of the year. :)

Hey there! We are trying to make a plan for when our egg layers aren’t producing as much. Is there any place in the KC area that we can take our chickens to? We only have 2-4 (depending on when we were to do it) that would need to be done. Thanks for any help!

It seems like a chicken should be part of the family even after they're not as productive as you like - they're giving a lot for you, you owe them a nice retirement! Not to have someone else take that on.

If you are indeed referencing harvesting them, there is a mobile butcher that serves the KC area. I’ve never had to use them so I cannot speak to quality, price, or anything. I can’t seem to find the info now (of course), but it is advertised on Craigslist fairly often.

Rooster in NE KS needs a new home. 6 month old Swedish Flower. Not mean or aggressive, but he is big and nosy. Reason for rehoming is flock dynamics just making things too complicated to manage. Asking $25.

I know it’s been a little while, but the mobile but her info is on Craigslist right now. If anyone needs it I’ve tried to copy the link here.
