Consolidated Kansas

Hello you Kansas Chicken people! I live in Roeland Park - Greater Kansas City area- and we are building steam to get chickens legal in our city. If there are any more Roeland Parkers out there, now is the time to join the adventure. The city council is split about half and half for and against chickens so we have our work cut out. We may be small, but we are a mighty group.

If any of you have suggestions or helpful hints, we welcome all new ideas to help us get hens in our backyards!

Thanks Backyard Chickens for being such a great resource.

Howdy from Lawrence! My mother used to live in Roeland Park, and I think it would be great if you guys got legalized!

Take a look at my page and at the top you'll find links to the paperwork from Lawrence finalizing the ordinance that explicitly allows us to have hens- you may be able to cite that and the success that we have had with great responses from the community. Another way to promote how well it's gone over here is to look at the Lawrence Magazine from Fall/Winter and an article from the Salina paper (I know about these because I was interviewed for each & got to cross 'Cover Model' off my bucket list

) They're fluffy articles, but overall give a good perspective of the acceptance.

Lawrence Magazine The article is on page 76.

I am also the Kansas City Urban Chicken Examiner for Examiner publications and write articles about the urban flocks, so that adds a bit of credibility to the gig. Urban Chicken Examiner

Are you the one who's in touch with former Commissioner Boog Highberger in regards to changing the laws in Roeland Park on the Lawrence Chicken listserv?

If not, then perhaps that's an ally for the footwork!

Welcome you new people. Chickens are so fun and this site is a great resource. I have a white rock hen that decided to set so she has now 9 eggs with pencil X's on them she is due Sunday. Have my fingers crossed. Dad is a RIR Moms are White rock or RIR or Golden Queens (RIRX RIW) Cant wait for baby chicks with no box in the kitchen.
My little Welsummers are loving their day pen, plenty of bugs. My brother in Shawnee has a permit for 10 chickens. He has put me to shame on how tame his birds are. He also built a fun little pen for his birds.

Hello Kansas Peps. I live 20 miles NW of Lawrence.

Our barnyard mix consist of Welsummers, black australorp, cuckoo maran and easter eggers
still in chick form Lavender/Split Ameraucana, Black copper Marans and Double-Laced Barnevelder.
in a couple of days I am picking up some Narragansett Poults.

My son has BBS Orpington and a Black/Lavender Orpington Rooster.

We also raise Kiko goats and we just got back into rabbits.

I heard this Saturday (6-12-2010) there is a Poultry and Rabbit swap meet in Overbrook, can anyone confirm this.

Okay- I need to know about this Overbrook thing, because I'm 2 lovely Golden Lakenvelder roos over what I need, and they are too pretty to dress. I'd love to find them a good home and would even be willing to bribe someone to love on them with a dozen hatching eggs!

I've avoided swaps like the plague, so I'm not tuned in to when they are or how to go about it all...
