Consolidated Kansas

Hmmm, I've got 16 pullets and hens 5 months-3 years and I'm getting 0-3 eggs/day. Yep, my production is down. To be fair, it's not all because of the heat though in my case.

Hello, I am stuck in - oops - I mean, I live in Roeland Park. Another lady and I have formed a group, City Hens In Roeland Park, or C.H.I.R.P. If any of you would like to join us in trying to get the codes corrected to allow hens, email me. I have had about a dozen people look at the current codes, including city council people and a lady that works for the county, and every one of them agree that the codes allow hens now. The city staff disagrees, and after pushing as far as I could, we are now just aiming to get new codes in place. Wish our group luck and send any helpful hints that you have.

thanks everyone,
sheri mcneil

My Saxony hen is not putting out, which is odd, but the chickens are still giving me about 6-7 a day (for 10 girls) so I'm down a bit in production.

Edited to change my answer; I only got 3 chicken eggs out of 10 girls today, and 2 out of 2 duck eggs. Looks like the heat is really taking it's toll.

Wheee Hooo the heat! I am sure my eggs are down I have to put off the people that want them now at least two days. Part of this is due to attrishion. sp? In any case one mother caring for one chick the other 5 eaten by the raccoons. Raccoons; 5 chicks Mike; 2 raccoons so far! One hen still healing from the fox. In contemplation I guess I am starting to realize there is excitment in the newest generation and acceptance in the loss of your old girls. Some start laying soft shelled eggs some quit laying due to previous enjuries. I love my girls and know their too tough to eat. If I could only have an emisary to the fox, hawk well thats it, every one else is dead on sight!
I at least I have my wellies to look forward too and every day. I am loving my silkies more and more. ( living incubators) I want more and I am sure I can give the eggs away. I am looking in to a shed I can correct for my needs.
Between the garden, the chickens, trying to live earth friendly.... I can only do so much.
Bottom line; I love my girls! Detatching myself from my RIR roo as there are Wellies comming on.

Opps neighbors here no edit now review Oh well just my thoughts! Be cool all its a long haul until Sept!

I have a year old Blue Orpington roo for sale, if anyone is interested. I doubt he's show quality, as he has some brown leakage, but he's huge and beautiful, and just too big for my girls. Please Pm me if you're interested. I'm asking $15 on CL, but would make a *special* deal for a BYC'er who wouldn't eat him

The girls have pulled the feathers around his neck, and some on his tail, but aside from that, he's a big, healthy boy.

This past week has been full of one chicken disaster after another and now one of our birds due to show in 2 weeks turned up missing at lockdown.

I better find it hiding out broody on a big ol' pile of eggs tomorrow!
