I had that same diagnosis, and I was ticked! I'm 56, too and I have no grandkids either.

Well, I'll be! I have a soul sister... or is that a "chicken sister."

Either way, works for me! I still have hopes for grandkids some day,

but I'm sure it won't be soon. Oldest is getting ready to start med school, and youngest is just starting college. They are both very career minded. (Gee... I wonder where they get that!)

I hear both of you. I was 28 when my (only) daughter was born, and she was in her early 30's when my grandaughter was born, so at 64 I'm trying to keep up with a 3 year old. I love it.

Holy Heck- it's 52 degrees here!! YIPPEEE!!!!!!! We are going to try to knock out the roof today- my DH and I. Right now he is out running 10miles, but I still have to put together two more trusses and then we're ready to put them up on the roof!! Going to put the plywood over it and hopefully if we're on track, we can run to Lowes and pick up the roofing and get it on. I hope I'm not being too ambitious... I just want this roof on so bad. I also talked him into letting me put in real electric, so we're going to put in the light fixture I got for $2 at the ReStore on the inside and put in an outlet. Our neighbor is going to trench it. (he owns a plumbing business)

MsjFrizzle- I had a dream about your dalmation chickens last night!! I want one sooo bad now!! I can't stop thinking about it! Isn't that crazy!?! I'm going to check my hatchery and see if they have any and if so, going to add one to my order.

Do you suppose my turkey is getting hormonal? She is doing a lot of fluffing out her feathers and jumping in the air with her wings out and then laying down on the ground. She is getting fiesty- but is still very sweet and gentle- the kids were playing with her yesterday and she always holds still for them and pecks at their treat offerings but is very gentle with how hard she grabs for it. She should get along with my chickens, right???? I mean, I'm going to wait to put them all together when the chicks have some size on them and they aren't tiny babies... but she shouldn't go after them??? I'm positive she is a Jenny- she has zero boy grown on her beak and around her face. Also, her wrinkled facial skin is getting really red instead of pink. But it kind of comes and goes- like a hot flash.

I'm putting a new ramp in the coop today so the littler chickens (one of whom is squatting at 18 weeks) can get up to the roost without running the gauntlet of the older chickens and cleaning out the hoop/coop run for storage. It was 47 when I got up at 6:30. Amazing. I am hyped and want to work OUTDOORS.

I'm 59 and have 5 grandchildren with the oldest being 17 years old! I got married at 17. I had two daughters. Waited many years then had 3 sons. My second eldest will be 39 in December and has never been married or had children. My middle son is married but has no children either. I didn't appreciate being a grandma at 42 years old but I certainly appreciate it now.

I'm loving this cool weather. We were gone yesterday and now today I have a brother here from out of state I need to go visit. It just seems like we never get anything done around here. I was really wanting to get pens built etc. DH assured me he had time off and we'd get some done but he is about ready to go back to work and NOTHING has been done. Typical!
Grrrr! If I could hook up the implements to the tractor I would have just attempted to do it all myself by now.

I'm going to Nevada to look after Lina while Jill and John get moved (from Winnemucca to Reno) the middle of the month. I suspect she will wear me out, but it will be a great bonding experience. I filled a similar position 2 years ago when they moved TO Winnemucca, so at least I have an idea what to expect.

My little girls are adapting nicely to living in the big coop with the year olds (2 nights and no blood), and the bumblefoot is improving on the 2 affected birds, so I should be ready to travel in a week. I hope.

You are so much braver than I am. I finally used the table saw by myself this morning to cut 8 little boards for steps on a ramp and I thought I was hot stuff.

I love power tools and probably own more of my own personal ones than most guys do. The tractor implements however are too heavy for me to tackle.
I've been watching a group of chickens and guineas carrying around a dead mole and fighting over it all morning. I wonder what they are thinking when they do that?
