Consolidated Kansas

ChooksChick-Oh, I see. I think I've got a few of those, but my yards huge and I'm vegetationally challenged.

I just thought the kids were leaving something out for a couple of days that was doing it. LOL

My house is the same only torrential downpours aren't necessary. Melting snow or light sprinkles do it now too. Every leak I fix seems to spawn 2 more. I'm back and forth on the buried perimeter channels or just plastic pallets as a subfloor or both with at least 2 good pumps.

KansasKid-TY! Darn, I thought this Saturday was off. We could try to come as buyers, but I'll have to check our fair schedule. We'll be done with showmanship Friday, but I haven't checked that far ahead. Too busy getting everything ready. Keep posting whenever new ones are set though and Craigslist posts so it can grow. Better swap and more money for your club. We'll definitely try to make it whenever we can. I'll be happy if the kids can be regular vendors by next spring. The feed bill is getting

I heard the saddest story last night. And it happened right in our KS back yard ... Augusta to be exact. My husbands cousin lost his little 3yr old grandson when the little boy wandered out of the house and into a lake. They found his body a couple hours later. Everyone had laid down for a nap and this little one, adventurous as always, got the door open and took off. Apparently they live very close to a small lake and he got into it.

Soo soo sad! Made me want to head over to Pittsburg and hug the daylights out of my grandbabies! Next best thing - we pay for InfantAquatics lessons for them. If anyone has the opportunity to provide these survival skills to your little ones I highly recommend them. My grandsons can both float on their backs, fully clothed and even with BOOTS on, for over 2 minutes at a time. I feel quite strongly that the men and women that teach this form of swimming lessons are saving lives daily.

I am providing a link to the instructor in Pittsburg, just in case anyone would be interested in learning more. http://www.infantaquatics.com/leslieharrison.htm

Actually, it happened in Wichita. The family lives in the same building as my BIL an apartment complex here. The complex has their own private lake and there are several buildings that sit on the banks of the lake. The building the little boy's family lives in is one of them. The sliding glass doors are about 20 ft. or so from the water. I was just over there earlier this week and as I looked out BIL's sliding door at the dock where they think he fell in I couldn't help but be thankful that my own 3 year old is healthy and happy. It is such a sad thing. I can't imagine what the family is going through.

I'm not a bit surprised that the towns got turned around. This is one those scattered families that mostly don't know each other, but I met and visited with the young father last night. He has been through the wringer growing up, but has a strong faith now (no offense intended to any non-believers). Hopefully it will carry them through this tragic event.

I hate when things like that happen. Sometimes though I'm honestly amazed any kids ever grow to adulthood.

We're not going to make it to either swap this weekend. Even Columbus we'd barely get there before we'd have to rush back for coop-out and clean-up.

Maybe next month.

Went to the swap meet this morning;(Overbrook) any one else go? I ended up getting some young rabbits from "Ray" He reminded me of the "Crab-man" . Very nice guy I felt he had feeling for his rabbits. He said he just couldnt kill them any more; "he could feel the life leave thier bodies". Two "New-zeland" doe's and a "California" buck. (all of them still pups) My friend Patty and I are going to eat their children.
swaps compaired to auctions are differnent because you get to meet the people selling. Also you find things for sale you may not find at the auction. Rabbit crocks; wish I wasnt so poor! There were lots of pigions, lots of rabbits, and a lot of chickens. Saw some guinnies, a turkey or two, a few ducks and one goat.
I left with fealings that were good and bad. The drive was great; loved seeing the country side and the houses great and small. I love seeing "good ol country folk"I could empithize sp?. with the compasion and drive to keep poultry. (BYC needs spell check). It was way cool to see people selling herbs and vegies: very good idea!
On the other hand I am a biologist and a chemist. I have concerns about the testing of these birds for disease. I guess I also have a little of the "food INC" attitude respect the worker, respect the animal, and respect the environment. I just want to throw my vote in for a reduction in the cages that clearly have not been cleaned in a long time. Fresh Poo and old Poo; they smell different. I am not judging just commenting. Stress invites disease and unclean cages can grow it. I am hoping none of you hate me for saying that!
