Hi!!

I'm here, ever so briefly. Everything is under water, and it's really annoying to have to slog around in this long enough to get soaked regardless of protective gear, then have to drive home 15 minutes soaked to the bone.

Of the 3 button quail that made it (gimpy one didn't make it, drowned herself...) I have 2 that look like the left here, and one that looks like the right.

They are very well feathered out, and are running around bossing the day old ducks and the 3 and 4 day old chicks that are in there with them. They have LOTS of energy!!!

I'm hoping we don't get any snow, because it will be hideous to step into big muddy puddles all over the pasture with snow hiding the depth of the mess...It needs to absorb the rain first, then a nice clean snow!

Danz, please be careful out there if it gets slick tomorrow, you could really hurt yourself!

Chookschick, those are some cute little birds!

Hawkeye, I'm in the same boat as you with the healthcare, I also have a heart condition that requires that I see a Cardiologist & I have a Rheumatologist for the arthritic conditions, so I have to be able to see my specialists. Yeah, we had to sign up for the most expensive plan they offered because of my health conditions. But even at that we're going to have some major out of pocket expense next year, more than ever before due to this darned new contract. The union for GE has not asked for outrageous things & actually the pay scale is behind the other aircraft companies. They actually need to ask for more pay to catch up, but they have focused the last several contracts on healthcare & pension & such instead of pay. The problem with this little plant at Strother is that there are bigger plants other places & they have to be careful because GE could just close the thing down without much thought at all. Like I said, they have opened this new plant in Brazil & you know that pay there is probably really low & there are no unions there. That's what all the companies are doing, sending the work out of the US & then workers here lose their jobs. It's all really bad news.

I sure hope we don't have all of this water freeze tomorrow, that will be really, really bad. I just got my knee fixed from the last injury in June & I don't want to go through that again.

Very good, checoukan! May I use that as an example (giving you credit, of course) when I start teaching my big poetry unit in January? The kids would like it

After teaching wild things all day, I ran around trying to get shopping done in the cold rain, with mixed results. Then I came home to chickens huddled in the run under the coop and deck, instead of up inside the newly-insulated living area. So I changed into rubber boots and my insulated coveralls so I could crawl around in poop-decorated straw trying to catch chickens. The dumb clucks!!! I hope the neighbors weren't watching.

I incarcerated the loud rooster in the house, and he is NOT happy, but I don't need him to get me busted!! I seriously don't know what to do with him, but I am going to try to get hold of the guy that sold me the EE "pullet" that's attacking the girls. I think he'll at least take that one off my hands, and maybe the vocal one as well. If anyone would like my little bantam roo (current avatar) as a pet, especially for kids, he would be great. He's little, he's very pretty, and LIKES to be held.

I also brought in my SS Hamburg hen. She's been limping rather badly, favoring her right leg. She's eating well, still laying, but the poor thing really seems to be hurting. I checked her carefully, and can't find anything obvious- bones are intact, feet look good, no visible injuries. I can't figure out what's ailing her. At least if she's indoors she won't be hurting herself even more getting in and out of the coop, the nest boxes, etc.

Awwwww!! Adorable!! I like the multi colored one! Sorry about Gimpy drowning herself. I'm with you-- I really hope this lake out here soaks up before we get any snow. Looks like we're just getting more rain, for now. Weather says it's snow-- but I just got back from the bus stop and sat there with my wipers on, and it is rain, not snow.

Trish, kind of scary about the job since you're right, they could decide to stay or go and it wouldn't make much of an impact on the company itself. If American business would keep ALL of it's work here in the US, we'd all have jobs. But of course, that isn't going to happen with them wanting to make more money and stay more competitive.

They can keep their prices low if they aren't paying workers. That's too bad that you have issues with your heart as well. Geez. If I take my beta blockers, I usually do alright and it works like it should-- most of the time. I have had an ambulance called on me twice at my church because I passed out from having an incident right there in the pew! Talk about embarassing! Now everyone is a little edgy around me when I'm not feeling well! LOL When I was working at Boeing, I had them call an ambulance once because I passed out and slipped under my desk. I woke up to the paramedics working above me. Usually I can cardioavert myeslf by coughing really hard when I know it's coming on, but sometimes it hits too fast, I don't have time. My DH took CPR so he doesn't feel so helpless. But, it's one of those things that I guess I really need surgery for, but I just don't want to do it! The chances of it working aren't high enough for me to want to do it. I have a condition that isn't really seen a lot. Every time i wind up in the hospial, I tell them what I have and they look at me baffled and have to scurry out and check to see what it is.

Frizzle- oh, I did that (climb under the coop) a few days back because my chickens stayed under there after dark and decided to sleep under there where they could be eaten. I didn't even let them out yesterday! I kept them in since I didn't want wet chickens or to have to climb in an inch deep water to get them. It is ridiculous out here!! I don't need another rooster, or have the room.

He is so pretty!! I've love to have him if I had a spot. I hope you find some place to give him to. You could always try CraigsList??? Someone may really want him since he's so pretty! Just be careful to say he's a bantam-- very TINY bird and he's sweet and loves to be held and he'd be great with kids. That way, no one will want to eat him.

Well, I better run! Need to jump in the shower and get ready to take the little ones to preschool!

I also need to figure out what the heck to get my DH for xmas and BUY it today while I'm out! Yikes, I'm behind!!

Renee, the button quail that tried to drown themselves came back out of the incubator unscathed. I have them in with Silkie chicks and hope they are smart enough not to get back in the water. I don't think I've ever produced a white one with a colored head before. That is awesome. I like it. When your chicks get old enough to sex, let me know and I'll give you mates for them. Surely you'll be through here again some time.
Still no snow here. Just rain and more rain. Ugh! Makes me hurt all over.
Hawkeye I am so sorry to hear about your heart condition. Do you wear a bracelet or necklace with your medical information on it? If not that would be a great Christmas gift for you. You must take care of yourself so your darling kids can grow up with a mother!
I guess at least for the time being my ducks are very happy with all the standing water.

Hawkeye, that's pretty scary that you just pass out & don't know it's coming on. I hope your meds work well & you must remember to take them always! I have a heart valve problem & have an irregular heartbeat. I'm on beta blocker medication also & one older med that my doc says I'm the only patient he has that is on it, but it works for me so he doesn't want to rock the boat. I just had an echocardiogram a week ago & it turned out great, so that was good news.

Yeah it's raining here again too, ugh. It's supposed to turn to sleet this afternoon, that's even worse on top of all of this water.

My silly chickens couldn't wait to get out of the run today. I didn't let them out yesterday, so I decided to let them out today to make them happy. They took off out of there like the place was on fire. My GP puppies wolfed down their food & took out of their pen too acting like it was a spring day out there. I guess if the chickens get too miserable they will go back in the coop, hopefully anyway.

My dumb dogs and my silly chickens are all out in the rain. The dogs are laying in the yard covered in mud rather than going to their dog houses. The chickens are soaked but act like nothing is going on. I would be in those coops under the heat lamp if it were me. In fact I am still putting off going out to feed.
The computer tech got here and the new computer is finally running. I need to transfer information between computers but am really feeling technically challenged today. I don't want to concentrate on anything.
