Ok...now I'm envisioning a pigeon the size of my orp or wyandotte roos.......that would be scary!!

LOL! VERY SCARY! You never know with those crazy genetic projects out there!

They were called "Runts" If they are Runts Id hate to see the others .

Here is my Cameo Peahen I bought. Once I checked around on prices for her age I didn't feel so bad about the price I paid. My battery died on my camera so I only got one shot - not the best picture but you can get an idea of how pretty she is...my Peacock "Whimsy" is courting her already around her pen I'm keeping her in for now...

callducklover20 - As far as human consumption use the link I posted earlier and click on testimonials to read what people have to say about using DE internally. I'm guessing here until I try it myself but I imagine that when added to say juice or water it'd taste comparable to Miralax which has no taste but gives water a slightly thickened feel. I am impressed by what I've read about the stuff both for in coop use and humans. I'm pretty confidant that I can sprinkle a little of the powdery stuff over the pine shavings on the floor without inhaling it. I always clean/add bedding with the big door open so that won't be an issue. As I understand it DE begins to dissolve the outer skin/shell (whatever it's called) of insects so they die and it dehydrates poop to break it down so flies aren't attracted to the coop. Did I say that the way I meant to? Hmm Anyway I guess I'll be ordering DE online and hope it ships fast. Once I place an order I watch for UPS almost as fervently as I watch my coop for eggs.

Hi Everyone,
I don't want to search these many pages so I'm going to be lazy and just post my question. I want to buy food grade DE but need to find a source within decent driving distance for me. I know you can get it online but MAN it costs as much or more to have the stuff shipped as the price of the product itself. I know someone mentioned a source in N Topeka. No idea who it was etc etc, thus my lazy inquiry. Earl May has it in 4# bags for around $13 and the guy I talked to said it doesn't say anything about food grade on the package. I don't know that it says food grade on the packages I've just seen online either. Perma-Guard is what I'd like to buy, but is it sold anywhere but thru their website? Too tired to continue to search. I hope to have my answer tomorrow and thanks ahead of time for whomever can help me out. Ü

Be Blessed,
Carol

CarolAnn I wonder if Arnolds Greenhouse in Leroy has it-thats the place I told you about, their # is 620-964-2463 or 620-964-2423 they have tons of organic stuff but I wasnt looking for food grade DE last year when I went down there, hopefully going to make a trip by the end of the month

Premier Farm and Home has it in 50# bags for $30 or so. They are in south Topeka, south of the turnpike interchange just a little west of Topeka Blvd. If you know where Tractor Supply is, they are just a bit south of there. If you call, they will tell you where to turn off (it is really hard to find the first time). they were the only people in Topeka I called that even knew what I was talking about. It is the good, food grade stuff. The bag says "shell flour" in addition to the DE label.
