Yesterday was a tough day without being able to talk to all of you.I stayed busy all day and realized I would probably accomplish alot more if I weren't on here. But every now and then there was something I wanted to share!
My biggest excitement was discovering a silver Pheonix hen with 5 newly hatched chicks. I have no idea where she had been sitting. Three of them look pure pheonix, one looks crossed and one is white. I got worried about them and put them in a large plastic dog kennel in the garage with the other chicks. My experience at mother raised chicks hasn't been good but if I can get these up to a little larger size in the kennel I will let her continue to raise them. It is so cute. I also have a big nest under my front porch that a brahma hen has been sitting on for quite some time. I would think they would be about ready to hatch. I want to close that off so Marshmallow can't crawl under there to have puppies, but don't want to disturb the hen. If she hatches some I have no idea where I'll put her and her babies to be safe.
I got the big dog house all rinsed out yesterday. Sure hope it dries ok. I guess we made it a little too tight cause the water didn't want to drain out. Marshmallow's puppies are due about Sunday or Monday. Could be another day later but I doubt it. I hope I can get DH out there to finish securing the kennel to the house. I got it moved in place but can't remember how he had it secured before. I need to throw a sacrificial blanket in there as well for her to whelp on. She's really slowed down the last few days. Puppies must be pushing on her lungs. I think I'll go out on a limb and say she will have 7 puppies. She looks a lot bigger than that but maybe they'll just be bigger pups.
I am really hurting now. I got to aching bad last night, but the effects of the fall really hit home this morning. My back is killing me and my right leg isn't wanting to work right. I hate being a klutz.
I spent a good deal of time working on that bargain tree I bought. I rewired all those lights and got all but one strand working, but after plugging them together one strand blew out. I think there is a voltage problem with the strings. Anyway I took them all off and found some string of lights to replace them. I decided to make two trees out of one since I got an extra section. It was too tall and skinny and crooked (supposed to be-they called it whimsical. I thought it just looked disproportional and crooked.) I asked DH to weld me up another base. If that ever happens then I can have two 4 foot purple accent trees. The lights I put on them are rated for outside where as the ones they had were inside lights. I can set them outside now for accent trees. My daughter in law will love these. Too bad I don't have a bunch of power cat ornaments to put on them.
