Consolidated Kansas

Whew!! I'm in!! And yikes, I was worried, because the site logged me out and I couldn't remember my password. I tried like 5 or 6 passwords that I normally use and nothing! I wonder what the heck I was thinking when I created this account? I must have dreamed up something crazy. Anyway, it took me 30 mins for the email to come to get my new password reset. So if that is why no one is here yet... that email takes a LONG time to get to your inbox!

Well, if anyone is interested in finding their albums and uploads... go to your Profile on the home page. Then scroll all the way to the bottom of it and there are your uploads and albums.

Question-- yesterday some one was saying that canned cat food was toxic to chickens. I'd never heard of that. Is that totally bogus? Seems like it would be.

I made it too! Was not sure how everything was going to work. Need to explore more. Had a rough night last night. Has lots of arithmea's, and I am really tired. Did not drive my morning route, cause I was just able to convert back to a normal rythem about 5 this morning. Still really tired, but ok. Whew what a time.

Yesterday was a tough day without being able to talk to all of you.I stayed busy all day and realized I would probably accomplish alot more if I weren't on here. But every now and then there was something I wanted to share!
My biggest excitement was discovering a silver Pheonix hen with 5 newly hatched chicks. I have no idea where she had been sitting. Three of them look pure pheonix, one looks crossed and one is white. I got worried about them and put them in a large plastic dog kennel in the garage with the other chicks. My experience at mother raised chicks hasn't been good but if I can get these up to a little larger size in the kennel I will let her continue to raise them. It is so cute. I also have a big nest under my front porch that a brahma hen has been sitting on for quite some time. I would think they would be about ready to hatch. I want to close that off so Marshmallow can't crawl under there to have puppies, but don't want to disturb the hen. If she hatches some I have no idea where I'll put her and her babies to be safe.
I got the big dog house all rinsed out yesterday. Sure hope it dries ok. I guess we made it a little too tight cause the water didn't want to drain out. Marshmallow's puppies are due about Sunday or Monday. Could be another day later but I doubt it. I hope I can get DH out there to finish securing the kennel to the house. I got it moved in place but can't remember how he had it secured before. I need to throw a sacrificial blanket in there as well for her to whelp on. She's really slowed down the last few days. Puppies must be pushing on her lungs. I think I'll go out on a limb and say she will have 7 puppies. She looks a lot bigger than that but maybe they'll just be bigger pups.
I am really hurting now. I got to aching bad last night, but the effects of the fall really hit home this morning. My back is killing me and my right leg isn't wanting to work right. I hate being a klutz.
I spent a good deal of time working on that bargain tree I bought. I rewired all those lights and got all but one strand working, but after plugging them together one strand blew out. I think there is a voltage problem with the strings. Anyway I took them all off and found some string of lights to replace them. I decided to make two trees out of one since I got an extra section. It was too tall and skinny and crooked (supposed to be-they called it whimsical. I thought it just looked disproportional and crooked.) I asked DH to weld me up another base. If that ever happens then I can have two 4 foot purple accent trees. The lights I put on them are rated for outside where as the ones they had were inside lights. I can set them outside now for accent trees. My daughter in law will love these. Too bad I don't have a bunch of power cat ornaments to put on them.

That's totally crazy! I see no reason why canned catfood would be toxic. Chickens love fish and mine have eaten cat food left overs more than once.

Okay, well I thought so!! Yesterday on the BYC Facebook, someone had a duck that prolasped and people were telling her how to fix it and what to feed it in the low light. Then someone said, do NOT feed it canned cat food because it's toxic to them and chickens. I was totally baffled. I asked yesterday to please explain what it was in the catfood that was toxic... and got no response. Probably because they had no idea what they were talking about. I was just so surprised! Don't you love it when people say "don't do this, it'll kill them" and then they have no idea why?

Well, last night went much better! All of my chickens put themselves to bed. No crawling under the coop. The is only the second time that's happened. I sure hope it's a sign of more to come! ha!

I took the cutest picture of Zorro outside yesterday, but can't seem to upload it. It's taking forever. I'll see if at some point I can get it loaded. Sigh.

Very cool about your phoenix babies!! So exciting! Is this the kind that has the really long tail?? Or am I thinking of another bird? And another broody under the deck! Your birds are really going at it strong on the brooding. So sorry about your back. That is not good. I hope you didn't do more than just bruise yourself. Take it easy and be sure that you don't over do it now. Looks like this weekend is IT!!!! Can't wait to see babies! I guess we all better figure out how to post pictures so we can continue to see what's going on! :) BTW--- I bet they do make powercat ornaments... ??
