Consolidated Kansas

Well one thing I do know about shipping that wasn't covered in those tutorials is that each state has different laws. For instance you can't ship birds like quail that are over 24 hours old from Kansas. I had checked into that at an earlier time. You must have an NPIP number for your flock in order to do it legally and by law all your breeders and birds over 4 months of age need tested once a year. I am an NPIP certified tester, but don't have all my own flock tested because I don't have the serum. It comes in 1000 dose bottles, expires rather quickly, and is very expensive. I plan to order a bottle this spring and test all my breeders. I am hoping to split a bottle with another tester, however she is going through a divorce at the time so her money is limited. I thought about trying to set up a testing day some where, but people would have to bring their birds to me. There is a per flock fee to file it. It is the same to file it whether you have 1 bird or 20, but then of course there would be a small per bird charge as well but just to cover expenses.
I had thought about trying to go to Muskogee to the swap and offering to test all the Kansas and out of state participants but it is 4.5 hours from me to go. I just can't justify driving that far.
Rittert one thing you need to know about your quail. People ship eggs all the time by selling them on Ebay, BYC, or other sites without testing. It's not legal, but shipping eggs doesn't require the forms that keep you out of trouble with the State.
Chooks, have you had to produce your NPIP forms to ship live birds? Just wondering how closely they enforce it.
I'm really not wanting to ship birds but obviously I can make a lot more money for my birds if I do ship especially on the rarer breeds like Seramas. I just don't know if the stress of doing it is worth it or not. I tend to be a by the book person and don't like taking chances.
I'm not convinced Marshmallow is out of the woods yet. I gave her anotehr shot last night and she acted fine all day. But she didn't get up during the night to pee. She just went while ago. She's not eating quite as good as she should. She only wants to eat treats and real meat. She was eating really well before she had the pups but she's always been a picky eater. My fault because I pampered her! I need to go buy some puppy chow and feed her that because it has what she needs nutritionally right now.
I listened to the weather last night and it sounds awful. They said the first week of February from the mock ups is going to be one very very cold bitter week. Not looking forward to that at all.
I need to get in gear and take eggs to town today but I'd sure rather just stay in.

Tweety, I forgot to mention. The pups are Great Pyrenees. My avatar is a picture of Fluff, my male. They're the best dogs ever for protecting your birds and livestock.

tweety, the pups in my avatar are also Great Pyrenees. The black & white are kind of a recessive gene that comes out once in awhile from the original dogs. These dogs were originally French & lived in the mountains & were used for protecting the sheep way out in the middle of nowhere. When people see my pups they think the black & white one is some other breed, but she isn't, she is a full-blooded Great Pyrenees. Mine are going to be 4 months old in a few days & growing fast. They're getting so heavy I almost can't pick them up any more.

Danz, the puppies sure do have different personalities, it will be interesting to see how yours develop. My two couldn't be more different, they're probably total opposites in personality. I sure hope Marshmallow gets through this crisis soon. I would get her some puppy food as quick as you can, she could use the extra protein to feed all of these pups.

IVY, I hope you get the results soon so you don't have to be wondering all weekend.

I also have the crud that is going around, last night I coughed all night long despite taking cough medicine before I went to bed that was supposed to last all night. Poor DH has to put up with my coughing, but then he is the one that gave it to me, so I guess it's kind of payback. Well we're going to Wichita today despite my crud, we have to shop for something for DH's mother's birthday. It's hard because she lives in a nursing home, is 90, & has Alzheimer's. It won't be anything fabulous, but she won't care. I doubt if 5 minutes after she gets it she remembers where it came from.

Chooks- How much are you asking for you d'uccles? I or someone I know might be interested.
Checoukan- I don't have access to any Ivomec but I think I got the mites killed. Their legs are starting to look much better but their feet and toes are going to take some time, I'm afraid. I'm been holding their whole leg in the veggie oil for about 5 or 10 seconds each.

Tweety-The dog in my avatar is a great pryenees also. They are wonderful livestock guardians. A number of us on here have them to protect our chicken flocks as well as other animals. Kind of a great pyrenees fan club here. My sister, Checoukan, has two great pyrenees, also. They are not good dogs for living in town, though. They were originally bred to protect large flocks of sheep and goats that ranged far and wide. My dogs will range quite a ways in order to keep the coyotes and other varmints away. We live out where it's not a problem. They also bark a lot at night. That is part of their way of keeping predators away. If you have the right situation for them they are about the best dog you could own for protecting your livestock. I've watched ours take on 5 coyotes at a time! I found a coyote about 1/4 mile from the corral the other day that I am sure the dogs killed.

I plan to get a pup from Danz because our older dog is getting pretty old and the vet didn't think he would live too much longer. I want to get a pup here and have Buddy train it before he passes on. The older dogs are good at teaching the younger dogs what to do, but even without an older dog for a mentor these dogs do what they do instinctually.

I wish Earl and Casper would let me take their pictures, but they do not like the camera and will have nothing to do with me when I have it! Guess since they do not know what is up to my face, they shy away. I would love to take a picture when they alert to something, they are just beautiful!!!!!

You could go to a vet, and see if you could buy Iike 1cc or something, cause you really don't need that much. Didn't I see where you said you worked at a sale barn? Would that vet sell you some?

Might be worth a try!

Even though I'm subscribed to this thread, it seems to unsub me every so often. SO annoying!

Tweety and Trish, I hope you're feeling better soon.

Hawkeye, congratulations on the egg!

Danz, what adorable, fat little pups. I keep Marshmallow in my thoughts.

Our waterer lost its suction, it must have a hole in it somewhere. The water keeps freezing anyway, so we just put the bottom out for now and check it regularly. I was just looking at the tin water heater in Chooks' sig the other day. Maybe we should get on that!

McPherson has tabled its no-roo ordinance but it's sure to come up again soon. Apparently the problem was that there were FIVE whole rooster complaints last year. I guess several people got up and spoke about other noises in town (loud cars, trains, mowers, etc.) and were they going to regulate those as well, or should we all just realize that towns have noise and we need to deal with it. My husband still thinks it will eventually pass and I'm sure he's right because they didn't do away with it or vote it down, just tabled it for now.
