Consolidated Kansas

Heya!

Danz, I've only been asked ONE time to supply my NPIP papers EVER, and it was a seller who is NPIP and follows her state's rules carefully, though SHE has never been asked. I included them inside the box of eggs.

I've never been asked about NPIP papers when shipping eggs or BIRDS other than that, and I've shipped to most states, including Alaska. I know Hawaii follows different rules and doesn't allow shipping there. I need to update my testing, btw, so if you are going to get a bottle, I'll help out if you want to stop by on your way to Tobleaka someday! I had a vet do it last time and it was free because I also had him do the AI testing, but that may not be an option now. He was also doing all of RevolutionMama's birds, as I was on a separate piece of her former property, so he probably tested 300 birds that day. We were all covered in blood by the end of it, and it was awful. Very unsanitary the way it was done that day.

Rittert, I am down to a pair of Porcelain d'Uccles and a quad of the Lavender- I'll take $40 for the pair and $100 for the quad, or $125 for all, first paid takes them. Obviously not hatchery birds. I'm surprised how many people have bitten on this- I posted on the d'Uccle thread, too. I know I never had any trouble selling eggs like mad, last couple of years.

Cherwill, one thing you can do is flip your waterer over at night. Then put it back right-side-up in the morning, and any water not frozen will drain back down while the ice stays at the top and thaws faster due to the sun's heat. Works for metal waterers, too, but not quite as well.

I've got a couple of those heated dog water bowls full of sand here at home (not electricity out at the farm) and put the gallon waterers on top of the sand, set down just a bit. Works well after the sand heats up.

My standard argument for the rooster haters is that I would much rather hear a rooster now and then than a constant dog barking night and day. I have never lived in town and not at least at some point every where I lived have to deal with barking dogs. I love the sounds of the roosters. It reminds me I live in a place where I can do what I want and enjoy nature.
I just got a call from a lady from Topeka that called earlier about wanting another one of my pups. I didn't know if I would hear back from her again but she is definitely wanting a pup and told me what she wanted.I'm going to send her photo updates as I post them on here I guess.
I so love the idea that I know all my pups go to a good homes where they will be treated well.
I need to go to town to deliver eggs I haven't been feeling well today. Some tummy trouble as they say on TV.
I should get in gear.
I spent my evening last night doing income taxes for one of my neighbors. What was I thinking when I said I could do them for him and efile them and he could save the money he pays the tax guy. To make matters the worst, this guy didn't have a clue. He just takes his tax stuff to the same guy every year and had no idea you needed information from previous years. So I had to finish up his state taxes this morning. That means he'll probably be back hanging around this evening to pick those up. He's one of those people that doesn't know when his welcome has worn out. Ugh! I really would like to just relax alone tonight. Maybe I should tell him I have a stomach bug.

Everyone here loves their GP's! :) It is like a GP dog fan club here! ha!

Cherwill, that is GREAT that the roo complaint was dropped for now. Yeah, things could change, but for now, it looks like everyone can have a rooster. I think that should really be the least of anyone's concerns. Sounds like enough chicken people showed up to drop it. I imagine it will continue in that way until you don't have chicken people show up to the meetings anymore. But chickens are getting more popular, so who knows what will happen!

Trish, sounds like a lot of cages! Glad you found a kit that will fit. I ran across this blog with a great rabbit set up-- figured I'd pass on the link for inspiration! :) http://hillbillymom08.blogspot.com/2012/01/part-3-rabbits.html?spref=fb

Took a couple pictures of Zelda my hen-- I think she's a hen! I think she might be the one that layed. Although... there were no eggs today! Do they start and stop???? Bummer.

Should have some chicks hatching tonight or tomorrow.

Wow! I'ts cold outside!

Checoukan- Do you have company yet? Be sure to tell them Hi for me and that I'm sorry they couldn't come up this way.

Still no word on my DH's condition. He called the Dr.'s office. The secretary didn't know anything and no one else was in so we left a message for them to call us. I sure hope we hear something tomorrow. It's getting ridiculous.

Danz-Sorry Marshmallow isn't quite up to par yet. Are the puppies thriving through all this? She must be making enough milk for them if they are all doing okay. Sue hope she is back to normal soon!

Here is what I considered an "amusing" conversation between my DH and myself. Keep in mind that I was NOT serious, but he was and thought that I was serious.

Me-"I want a big chandalier for my room in the basement."
DH-"You already have two 2'x4' flourescent light fixtures to put in there."
Me- "But those aren't PRETTY."
DH- "We could paint them."

I was not serious, so it struck me really funny that he came up with this idea to "pretty up" the old light fixtures. That's and engineer for ya. Gotta love 'em.

Hi Hawkeye!

It looks like Zelda is enjoying a day in the bright sunshine, cold or not. Silkies make me think they are the "poodles" of the chicken world.

So what would all of you think about having a get together day someplace to get all your birds tested? Maybe we could find some central location. If you don't have tons like myself You could bring them in cages and hand them to me to do the testing. I think there's quite a few of you from the Lawrence area. That's a drive for me but if there were enough birds to test I could probably find the time to go.
I don't have the stuff to test for AI. I have been meaning to see what I can do to get qualified for that. I'd be more than happy to test for you guys. It may not make much difference but it opens up some opportunities to sell your birds and eggs with some reassurance for yourself and your customers. It's just an idea

Danz, personally, I'd be all for this.... if I knew I was staying here in KS. Since things are up in the air for me-- I really don't feel like I should put any input into this. But I do think this is a great idea. I'm a bit bummed-- my DH told me last night he doesn't want me incubating/hatching until we find out what is happening in Feb. He doesn't want more animals to transport. It's really the smartest thing. But I'm sad. Ah well. I was going to build them their own pen out there, and I don't want to do that and then have to leave it too. :p Hope Marshmallow is feeling better this afternoon!

So, Sorry I’ve been MIA these past couple days. Killer crud hath taken me over. I work in the ER, so I knew that I’d eventually succumb to one of these things people are bringing in every day. In catching up with everyone:

Danz – Those have got to be some of the cutest puppies ever!! We’ll be looking for a pup in the future, but that will have to wait till my old man dog goes over the rainbow bridge. He’s 13 years old, which is old for a black lab, and we’ve been surprised that he’s survived these last two years – but he’s hanging on. Once he’s gone, we’ll be getting another pup as a friend for our American Bulldog. Darwin, who is 3 yrs old, is still a pup himself. I hand raised him from 9 days old. His mama passed away while giving birth and the owner couldn’t handle hand raising the 8 pups herself. It’s a great experience hand-raising a dog, but I really hope that Marshmallow pulls through that you don’t have to do that! - Since I came into the forums late in the game, what breed are the pups?

Ivy – Have you heard about the test results yet? I hope they don’t keep you waiting through the weekend either. We are all pulling for good news!! And WHOOOO on the Rosecomb egg!!!

Hawkeye – WOOOHOOO on the egg!! I’m glad you finally got one, that means there are many more to come!!

Chickmama – I did send out several emails about SOPA yesterday as well as encouraged several others to do so! This whole thing just pisses me off so I won’t rant – that’s what I did in the emails. LOL

Chooks – Wish I had the coop set up or I might take you up on those birds. They are beautiful from the google pics I found.

Now, a bit about me – other than the crud. I’m really excited to learn that the city of Lawrence is now allowing potbelly pigs as pets. I’ve always wanted one, but now that I’m reading about them – I’m wondering if they would be more work than a new puppy. I know I haven’t even started with the chicks and think that it would be a couple years before I’d seriously consider getting one, but I’m just excited that I now even have that option!
I am also getting the spring itch really bad. Although the weather has been so great, I can’t wait till I can get outside and do more yard work. The yard in the house we moved into is beautifully landscaped, but we moved in the end of October and with moving, then the holidays right after – I never got a chance to do any real yard work. I did get some plants started indoors this week though. Got some celery, broccoli, onions, and cabbage started and surprisingly the seeds are already sprouting after just three days!

thank you! I am excited about the eggs I've been getting both from my turkey and now the silkie! I sure hope you are on the mend! No fun to be sick! I bet working in the ER is entertaining at best. One of my good friends is an RN and works in the ER in KC and she has STORIES!!! She is always working the night shift where all the fun happens. LOL!

Pot belly pigs, hu? My neighbor back when I was growing up had one. It was okay, but then it sort of got kind of mean when it got really old. I don't know why. It was house broke, though. It went in and out of the dog door. Definitely read up on them and make sure you know as much as possible before you dive in. :) Sounds kind of fun, though. Congrats on the new house! Doesn't sound like you've been there that long. My brother also lives in Lawrence. Over the bridge.
