Consolidated Kansas

Thanks everyone for the tips on the cold weather clothing. I hate being cold, so i'm going to be checking out everything mentioned! I was thinking about getting a set of insulated coverall's, but since I have to head to walmart today anyways - I might check out those insulated pants as well! Where do ya'll get your muck boots? We have both an orschleans and a tractor supply here in town that I was planning on checking out.

I'm planning on staying in for the most part this weekend as well, other than the grocery shopping that I have to get done. I have a quilt that I've been working on that needs my attention. I'm thinking I need to get that done before the chicks arrive, otherwise i won't have as much time on my hands! LOL

Hope everyone has a great day!!

I found these same gloves on eBay if anybody likes to buy on there, here is the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/350503933069?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I buy a lot of stuff on eBay & sell of there too, but I buy anything I can there because I earn eBay bucks to use for buying something else at intervals, it comes in handy. I can't wait to get these & try them out. I did look at the other pair also Danz, but I like that these first ones you had the link for have the texture to help grip, so I ordered those. Thanks again for sharing that! We all have to help each other out when it comes to braving this weather.

Well I feel dumb as mud! I got ready to take the picture of the turkey's problem and realized its a prolapsed belly button not a rectum. They are a lot closer together than a chickens is for sure. Still not sure if I should do anything for it though.
Knock on wood, Marshmallow seems to be doing great now. Eating well and going out to pee quite often. I think I'll chance putting her and the pups back out today. I need to mop floors and stuff. She has quite a bit of bloody discharge coming out and it's getting where ever she sits. I talked the vet yesterday and he said that was a good thing since she is getting exercise now.
The pups are getting fat and really getting around well.
Any of these large breed dogs need lots and lots of extra calcium in their diet. I feed puppy chow like loyalle that has a higher calcium content. I'm so sorry about your friend's dog. I do hope it does ok but I certainly would never breed it as these conditions can be hereditary. I really don't know that much but I listen to my daughter who is a "self acclaimed" expert in large dogs.
Ivy the pants may not say work out pants. They just have that windbreaker kind of outside normally and they usually have racks of them. I went to Walmart.com and they have some that are called track pants and some that are called wind wear pants. I think i have one pair of each and I think the track pants are the warmer ones. They aren't as shiny on the outside. And they're in the menswear section and have an elastic and drawstring waist. I never use the drawstring. I have enough meat I don't have to worry about them falling down.
I haven't done a thing yet today. I should get off the computer for a while and get in gear.

Thanks, Danz. I will definitely look for some. It has been so cold and my legs just get icy out in the wind. Then my rear end gets cold and it takes a while to warm back up.

I just put my little rosecomb in the brooder with the other chicks. YIKES! He is SO SMALL compared to those ameraucanas and my big fat butt marans! I'm going to have to watch him closely, but I think when my lakenvelders come out of the hatcher I will put him in with them. I'm going to have to rethink this brooder arrangement. It's tough doing continual hatching and having chicks of all different sizes and ages.

Danz - about the turkey, I had a gosling hatch with "something" wrong with its billy button. I thought it was because the cord had been pulled on and pulled some of the insides out. I didn't know what to do. What I ended up doing was - nothing but watch it over time. The gosling acted ok, was eating, drinking, everything it should. So I decided to just wait and watch as long as it was not acting stressed or sick. Over time, the glob became dried and smaller. The gosling was pooping just fine so I assumed it was not intestines or the food could not have been going through without a problem. It is now a big goose and I don't even know which one it is.

Your little poults problem may be totally different, but thought I would share the mystery of the gosling that had a happy outcome.

Hey all! been super crazy and busy here, add to off and on internet. Trying to get caught up before kidding starts out. What I was wondering, is I'd really love to find a few guineas. Anyone on here have any for sale or anything.?
Hop everyone is surviving this cold ok....Brrrr...

Trish love your pic of the girls! :)

What do you want Candace? I've been over wintering some of late last years guinea hatch. They're full grown now. I intended to sell them this spring when no one had chicks yet. But I could let go of a few if you need them now. I sold a handful to Renee for a friend of hers. PM me if you want to talk about it.
I just moved a handful of baby chicks out to the brooder house. My bin was getting over crowded and I have a bunch of chicks hatching today. The little turkey wasn't eating but I cooked some egg and he got into it. I think he will be ok as long as his tummy heals. I just ordered more eggs. I don't want him to be lonely.

Danz., on the navel prolapsed turkey, I use to get a bunch of chicks like that and if they didn't draw it in within a couple days I'd cull them, hope that helps. On the winter clothes I love my insulated bibs and just go a full arm pair of hand me down coveralls this year and kind of like them to (the straps on the bibs make my shoulders break out after a few days so the full arms give me a break from the straps). I've wanted to get some of the insulated pants for a while now, those might just have to be added to my wardrob next fall.

I moved the dogs back out today. I sure hope that wasn't a mistake. I am sitting here with this baby duck tucked in my elbow. I guess he thinks I'm his mama. I tried to get the cats to adopt him but they act scared to death of him. They're probably thinking, "Oh God! Don't touch the duck or Mom will yell at us." Poor little thing is so lonely. I am so sick of the smell though. No matter how often you clean a duck bin it stinks. A perfect world would be a nice clean house with no animals inside and a really nice place for all of them outside. I had some more duck eggs come out of the incubator today but none of them were fertile. Dang the winter weather anyway!
My arthritis is going nuts. Must be another cold front moving in.

My DH was so cute tonight. First, I must preface by stating that I'm completely the one that had to talk him into letting me get some chickens. He gave me the lecture of me having to be the one to take care of them and so forth.. So today, he said a couple things that were so cute. First, I'd gotten an email from Burpee about the $4.95 shipping weekend and I mentioned that to him, and he said "is that your chicken site, you wanting to order more chicks?". I was like "no, it's the seeds site" and he said "oh, cuz those ones that lay the blue and green eggs are cool. I'd like some of those". awww.. And then today over dinner (we had breakfast for dinner), I mentioned that this time next year we'd be eating fresh from our coop eggs. I told him that if we get any funky eggs that we could scramble them up and feed them to the chickens. He said "Wouldn't that be canabilizm. Our chickens are going to eat better than that". OUR chickens. I love that they just aren't "your birds" anymore. Anyways, I knew ya'll would be the ones that would understand how happy these little things said would make me :)
