Consolidated Kansas

They ARE soo cute!!!! My granddaughters and I have spent our share of time hanging around the baby ducks at the farm store. Hubby says NO DUCKS but then again he was saying NO CHICKENS at one time too. I might not mind having a couple of pretty ducks some day.

I am at the point that I really want some more hens - but I am picky - I want more like my girls Elmo & Zoe - thought one was a roo - lol and Elmo just stuck as a name... they are golden comets... my 3 year old named them. My other rooster is named Hannah Montana... poor guy. Originally there was a hen & a roo - same color - so they got named Hannah & Montana - the hen disappeared over the fence - so my kid just calls the roo Hannah Montana.... hope he doesnt get a complex...

it's funny though - when he puffs up and acts cocky - to hear her yelling "NO HANNAH MONTANA - YOURE A BAD CHICKEN TODAY" dont worry - I don't leave her unattended with him! but believe it or not - it works - he stops in his tracks!

I also am dreaming of some buff orps & a few barred rocks.

I checked craigs list but didnt get any response... oh well.... I'll buy chicks in spring but I'm pretty easy right now about buying them if I see em... lol - didnt find any for sale at the fair that I wanted!

Our youngest son named his goat, rabbit, turkey and chicken Lightning McQueen. The wife and I our expecting girl in January, my son wants to name her Lightning McQueen.

I know a lady in Hoyt KS that may still have some Buff Orpingtons. Hoyt is about 20 miles north of Topeka. If interested pm me.

I think I saw your ad (Near El Dorado?) I saw an ad selling buff orps in Atlanta, KS and one in Moundridge. I was looking for americanas.

I would say you need to be there around 9:00 to get your buyers number and then be there for when the stuff is being unloaded and checked in to really make sure you get the good stuff. If your buying poultry that is. Since most things are priced and you can buy it once it is put in the auction line.

The auction starts at 11:00 selling new tack and the animals start at 12:00.

Any peafowl you know of coming? Thoughts on normal prices for them this time of year? I don't think I could come until Sunday though.

Fondofchicks-I've a black Ameraucana roo if you might be interested. He's got a touch of white in his wings, so he's no good to me. There's a local girl who might take him for sex-linked EEs, but if not, I could let you know.

Thanks for the info folks - I am actually pretty close to Wichita - but am always up for a bit of a road trip if I thought I'd have some good at the end of it. If I get any birds this late in the year - I'd like em to be at least mostly grown - I really hate to try to keep chicks warm and safe throughout the winter.

I think I have my coop pretty winterized - but will always worry - lol

My poor hens - only 3 of them and 2 roosters. So far - the roosters are okay - one is clearly alpha - and the other is respecting that. At least the girls are protected!
