Consolidated Kansas

Its ironic that your selling pyranees pups, we are on the rescue rescoure line for a dog, but I've given up on them now. (by the time I found out you had them, they were sold) Were just gonna adopt a mastiff cross instead thats needing rescued.

So today, I picked up the hinges and hardware for my little coop. I also bought the paint to match my big coop. Then I went to Derby Atwoods to buy horse grain... and i ran into a super nice lady there looking at chicks. We got to talking about our guesses on what were in the bin. Buff Orps and black sex link-- that was all that was left in the heavies/pullets. Anyway, she has horses and chickens and we have similar ideas about caring for our horses/animals and I LOVED her!! I gave her my email but I didn't think to ask for hers. So I hope she writes me! (she has a lead on brome hay for this spring) Anyway, she said she used to be here on BYC, but I don't know if she was ever on this thread. Her name is Spring... maybe it was her user ID, too? Anyone know her? We just talked and talked! I swear-- those little fluffy butts in Atwoods can bring people together. LOL!!

Anyway, I'm getting more serious about the AI thing... Ivy, if you have any last words of advice, lay it on me!! I *think* I'm going to try after preschool tomorrow. We'll see if I wimp out.

how did you get the "this" to be a link?? I tried to do something very similar in my signature and it would not work! I used the directional <a heref" code and it totally did not work. I was so frustrated over that one. I'm guessing I can't put html directly in here???

I just hyperlinked it. Just highlight the word you want to be the link and there is a little button in the reply box that looks like a world with a little white thingy and if you click that you can paste the address of the page you want to link, click ok and it will link it. Easy Peasy.

I did the same thing in my signature. I typed the Kansas poultry page and did the above and there it is. Try it. It's easy!

I got 3 from them last year and mine lay about the same colors as yours. Just gorgeous!

I bought 4 EE chicks from Orschlen's last spring, and all of them lay various shades of green eggs. You can sort of see the various colors. The black chick lays the one between the pink and dark eggs, the nex one down (lighter) is laid by a light girl with orange on her. The one after that comes from a typical ee colored hen and the next one from a dark girl with no beard at all. All 4 were green egg layers, so I really recommend their hatchery.

Wow! What a chatty bunch today!

Whew. I'm tired. Long day and not much sleep. Our new pup is in the house for the night. Hopefully just one night. She will probably keep us up at least part of the night. SHE IS ADORABLE! We fell in love with her immediatly. I swear, as we were driving home that pup was looking up at Mike with those beautiful puppy eyes and it was obvious he was in love. I thought I was going to cry, but since I was driving I managed to control myself.

She did manage to get carsick and threw up all over Mike's lap. He forgave her. She was really good on the way home and I think will adapt very quickly. She's been a little shy and timid since we've been home, (typical GP in new surroundings) but has been introduced to the other dogs and I think everything is going to go well. We couldn't be happier.

HAWKEYE-On the AI thing.... separate the rooster from the hens, or he will do his thing when you aren't there and then you won't get anything when you work with him. Put him someplace where he can't get to the hens, but can see them, like if they are on the floor below his pen or something. I guess this kind of helps get him excited about the prospect. I've heard it's most successful to go out fairly early after it starts getting light and they start waking up. Good luck with that. I'm not doing any AI right now because the ones I need to do that with are not laying. Hopefully they will start soon.

Danz-We sure enjoyed visiting and we are SO happy with "Britt." She exhibits many of those GP personality traits already. Thank you for raising this wonderful pup for us! I wish I could sleep with her, but I just don't fit that well on the floor.... to much arthritis, I guess.

Oh... I promise pictures soon. Not tonight.. The ole mama hen is just too tired.

too funny that your new pup threw up all over Mike! opps! I'm glad she's settling in and she's sweet. :)

Okay so I have separate Zorro away from his girls. Well, I suppose that makes sense. I do have another kennel to put him in. So that can be done easily, I just know he's going to be pretty unhappy to be away from his girls. Okay, so when I take him out of his separate cage-- then I give him a good look at his girls thru the bars and THEN do the AI. Okay... think I'm on the same page now. I have to take kids to preschool today, so I may give this a shot later this afternoon/evening. Sounds like morning is best, and if it doesn't work out later today, then I'll try tomorrow morning when I don't have a million things going on. :)

I'm going to have to break Yoda of being broody, I think. Pretty sure she's sitting on unfertilized eggs, and if she quits laying, then this AI isn't going to do me any good. I'll need her to get back to laying. But she's the one with the gold leakage anyway-- so I'm not sure how well her babies will turn out. The combination I'm really hopeful for is with my black hen -- she is very typey and has a nice big crest and full cushion and super feathered feet! But she's the one that only lays every other day or every 3 days. She's not very consistent.

Good morning, my friends! I hope everyone had a great night!
They are saying that we are going to have rain and thunderstorms today. I really hope it doesn't tear up the hope frame I put on my garden patch. Oh well, if it does, it does and i'll have something more to do this weekend. I'm gearing up for a baby shower this weekend. I can't believe that my daughter is due in 4 weeks! Craziness.

Ivy - the story of the pup is tooo cute!! I can just picture the look that you are talking about. :) Can't wait to see pics!
