Danz, I don't think I could put up with Chopper leaving piles of presents everywhere. He'd be out the door or I'd figure out a diaper for him.

That is causing you a lot of work.

Here is where my coop is at as of this morning-- I haven't worked on it in a few days. It's going to be nice today, so I plan on getting out there today!! :) I got the first coat of paint on it-- it's not pretty, but I wasn't aiming to make it perfect on the first coat. I'm hoping the second coat will cover it better and will look great. I'll need to put a cinder block or something under the "ramp/door" to rest on, so it's not at such an insane angle when I do put the birds in it. But that's no biggie.

That looks great!! You do fabulous work! I wish I could be like you!

Wow! What a day. I would like to respond to everyone on here today, but I just don't have the energy. Instead, I will tell you a bit about my day.

I've been wanting to upgrade my GQF to a model with auto turners. I found one on craigslist. It came with lots of accessories.

That is fabulous!! I made a cabinet incubator about a month ago, but I'm still wanting a real one...someday!!

I have one that needed a ramp boost, too, and I used a milk crate, threw a bunch of pea, millet, grass, etc. seeds under it, and used the 5" garden staples to pin it in the ground. This not only works to keep the ramp at a better angle, but also works as a salad bar they can't dig up! The can only eat what grows through the holes of the crate.

Chooks-What a great idea for a little chicken salad!

Yes, it was a great feeling to be able to save the doe and the doeling, even though the little buckling didn't make it. If we hadn't sacrificed the little buckling all 3 would have died. I was so proud of Mike. As soon as he saw that doe he whipped off his jacked and got to work. I was afraid we weren't going to be able to save her, and with the vet refusing to help there would have been no alternative.

Well, gotta git to town. Think I'll r-u-n-n-o-f -T. (From "Brother Where Art Thou)

OH!! I LOVE that idea!!! Thanks!!! :)

LOL I love that movie! :)

This was posted not long ago-- shows how to pack eggs. BTW-- Checoukan pretty much did exactly this!

Obviously not her first rodeo. hehe Although-- her eggs were sooo tiny, they fit back into the egg carton which gave even more protection after bubble wrapping. I found this video interesting! Okay, I really need to get busy! The wind is still so cold out there, but it's warming up.

I've never had to put anything in the nest to get my hens to lay their eggs there. They just seem to know that's the play to lay their eggs! The only thing I've ever heard of putting plastic or wooden eggs in the nest is to discourage hens from eating eggs. That doesn't work either!

Hawkeye - I'm glad that Zelda came back! That's so cute that she ran and jumped into your arms!! She probably was scared and I'm sure she has all sorts of stories to tell Zorro now. LOL

Thanks everyone for the kind words about the shower. I AM furious with everyone. My DD is such a trooper. She was the one apologizing for her "friends" and apologizing for all the work I went through to set up the party, when I was the one that felt bad for her. I posted a message about it on my FB page - most of the girls (and one guy) are friends with me as well, so I'm just waiting for one of them to see it and respond. How horribly passive agressive is that.. LOL

Went to walmart and found this awesome plastic easter eggs. I've been on the hunt for something that looks like a real egg to use in the nests when my birds come time to lay and I found these brown football eggs that just might work!

Hawkeye, that little coop is looking great, good job as usual! See, it does pay to "train" your chickens with treats.

IVY, wow that is a great story & wow on the incubator, congrats! I'm glad Mike was able to help save the little doeling & the doe. That was quite a day.

HeChicken, that sounds like a great deal you got too. I have a chipper-shredder sitting in my garage I need to dig out if I can get my son to come go through his junk & get it out of there. I just reminded him a little bit ago on the phone, excuses as usual. But that was a great deal you got, glad you're happy with your purchase. I got a pretty good deal on CL the other day too. I saved $40 on some rabbit cages by driving to get them instead of ordering them. Yeah it cost a little for gas, but not as much as the shipping would have.

Sapphire, puppy pics soon!

Danz, it sounds like you just about have all the pups gone, I'll bet you will have mixed feelings about that, I know I would.

I have a little funny I have to tell on my Lakenvelder hen from this morning. One of them went into the coop after she got back in this morning, they have both decided they like living outside better than in, oh well. Anyway I had gone in & collected eggs & one of the Lakie girls went into the coop to lay. She walked back & forth looking in all the nests, going in each one & then back out. I was watching her from through the window in the door. She looked confused, so I thought well she usually goes in there & there are eggs already in the nests, so I took one back in & put it in the middle nest. I went back out & watched her again & she walked along & saw the egg in the nest & went in there & laid an egg. I thought that was hilarious that she couldn't seem to decide on a nest without an egg in there.

I've just read up on everyone: This group has their hands full -- all of us!!!!

Tonya: Just in case you peek in here -- thinking about you and yours, hoping for the best and be safe.

Chookschicks: Great idea for the pallet thing!

Ivywoods: Congrats on the incubator! I just ordered one from GQF and it was more expensive that way but I got nervous after trying to order one from Sure Hatch and nobody would answer their phone or call me back. Anyway, it's supposed to be here Wednesday!! I'm so excited! I just got a Genesis Digital Hovabator which I've never used, but thought I could use it for hatching now. I ordered the Sportsman 1502 incubator/hatcher. Just couldn't swing the expense of both cabinets. You sure had quite an experience!

Hawkeye: I like your coop! What I especially like is where you got the wood to make it! My DH picked up some free pallets for me and I'm going to use them to build my chicken tractors/breeding pens.

Chicken Danz: I so enjoy hearing about Chopper. You have one really, really spoiled bird! Isn't it funny that our pets think they own us, when we actually own them? ...or, well, maybe we own them, wait a minute, what's going on here?

Reality strikes again!

Have to go check the chicks, back later!

So, DH went to the TSC to check out the Carharts on sale and came home with an unexpected surprise:
(needless to say, I had to rush around and create a new brooder... I call it Ducken Math.. LOL (or would it be Chicuck Math?)
