They hated that birdSunflower--- you don't seem to have the typical responses from your flock that most people do! I had to laugh that the blue kote made them chase the bird-- I've NEVER heard of that! Hope that R-COM is working great for you!![]()

I am not looking too seriously - I have 19 eggs in the incubator already that are due to hatch 1/11 - I will keep them in the house for the first 2 weeks then put them in the "barn" (really a building we call the barn) with an EcoGlow. I like hatching in the winter actually.. they get to free range as soon as it warms up!.
Sunflower- I might have missed something but are you looking for hatching eggs?
Yes - it was blue kote- maybe because it was over the entire back of the chicken and made her look like someone new added to the flock? She went from white to purple/blue! She didn't have any feathers on her back - Fern got a hold of her and had her between her paws ripping out the feathersSunflower are you sure it was Blu-Kote you were using? I've never heard of birds having that reaction to it before.
Yeah, I figured I'd get nothing, there just wasn't a rooster in there on a regular basis.Oh I totally understand about wanting to carry on her genetics if possible. So sorry it doesn't look as though they are developing even though I know you knew it was a long shot.
sorry about your electric, but with kids, things happen and they all think they didn't do it. They may not even have known they did it!I've been out running all over God's creation and came home to the electrical cord to the poultry fence yanked out of its outlet. Sheesh! Now, how did that happen? No clue. Everyone claims to have been inside that wasn't with me and DH is sick so surely he wasn't outside staggering around. It just seems like one thing or another that poultry fence is either off or on the lowest power setting which does absolutely nothing to deter neighbor dogs or cats. At least all were safe and sound. I'm going to have to put myself up a cozy little tent so I can guard that cord like a troll. Kidding.
I'm with you guys. I'm a little weary of having chicks and am enjoying the break from it. I'm sure that won't last once it starts to warm up a bit. I wonder how long it will take for me to get antsy and start throwing eggs in the bator again! Ha!
Danz, you're kitty is doing poorly, too? Good grief.Hang in there!![]()
Sunflower, if I had any eggs right now I'd pass them along but I have only 2 Speckled Sussex hens left and they aren't laying yet. They should start any time but so far, no go.
LOVE, LOVE! Madge looks just like Seymore did!! So pretty!!! Thank you for posting the RP pictures!!I found my camera cable! So here are some pics of Ned Kelly displaying. His tail is a little ratty - not sure why the ends are missing but I guess they will stay that way now until he molts out his tail again. Hawkeye, I threw one in where Madge wanted in on the photo shoot too, since when I talked about how she displayed that one time too, you were asking if I am sure she is a girl. (She has never done that since - I think it was all a behavior to establish dominance since prior to that day, Madge had been dominant over Ned, but he is now the dominant turkey.)

http://blog.siffordsojournal.com/2010/01/operation-chicken-peritonitis.html I'm going to guess either Coccidosis or peritonitis-- EVEN though she is laying, they can still get it. In fact, that is another cause of death I am wondering about for my own silkie hen that died a few days ago. I would be leaning towards the peritonitis just because of your description of her going to the nest box often. If she has it, she will die if she doesn't get on antibiotics. I post the link above, but go ahead and Google it some more and see what you come up with for treatments!I have a Dk Cornish girl. Her butt has dribble on it - she goes in/out of the next box several times a day but isn't laying every day.. she sits and sits in there and no egg - (she is laying, just not regularly) - this has been going on for a few weeks. And - her butt looks completely bare with dribble coming out of it... but then at times, it has feathers over it too.
Here is one photo - but at times, her entire butt is exposed and looks like all the feathers are gone and you can see the vent dripping.. but when she is out with her feathers over, it looks like this photo - and she goes in/out/in/out of the nest box daily - but she is only laying every 3 or 4 days now instead of daily. She acts like she wants to lay, but can't - but she IS laying, so I don't think she is egg bound.

OMGosh! That is crazy! You are right-- you really are the 1%! That would be insane always falling into that! ha! But glad things do eventually work out! They hated that birdPoor thing - I had to take her out to the field for 10-15 mins every few hours so she could free range. Everyone picked on her.. especially the rooster, Jasper! I never have anything normal - ever. I don't get sick much either, but when I do - it's always something drastic and weird... like - saliva stones that swell up my entire side of that neck area and when I went to the ER, they threw a mask on me and carted me away from people very quickly - I got great immediate service lol... they thought I had mumps (as did I at the time..)
I don't know Hawkeye - I read about both of those conditions and neither mention the "drippy butt" she has that is the main visible symptom.. I've searched and searched for this and just can't find anything that discusses the drippiness.. She is my first ever chicken that I raised in a bathtub when I was still in Wichita waiting to move out here - I bought her on impulse from Atwoods with 4 other chicks - of the 4, I only have 2 left... the other 3 were killed by predators.http://blog.siffordsojournal.com/2010/01/operation-chicken-peritonitis.html I'm going to guess either Coccidosis or peritonitis-- EVEN though she is laying, they can still get it.
