HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Hope everyone had a nice evening. We watched a movie and the ball drop in NYC and then went off to bed.

Danz, one of my favorite animal quotes is "We are all born to live a good life and love others, animals already know how to do this so they don't need to stay as long." I know how hard it is to lose a dear feline friend who has been in your life for so long but think of all the wonderful things you shared with them. I always think each of my animals is here to teach me something and someday when they leave this world I hope I learned that lesson well.

Congrats on your DDs accomplishments, Medawinks. You have every right to be proud. She is an excellent talented child. Beautiful as well.
Thanks Josie. He is still hanging on. I guess his will to live is what got him this old.
I've got a couple more eggs to put in the hatcher today. I am running out of things to hatch. Dang it! My lemon and lavender orps are starting to lay. I need to separate them into their sides of the house so I can start hatching pure breds. I figure the first several eggs won't be fertile anyway. I have one fancy brahma in there with them that is laying but have no place to put her yet. I need to figure out some more housing. I have quite a few different young brahmas I need to get in their own pen as well. I think I am going to thin down breeds again soon. It is so hard to know what to keep and what to dispose of.
Chickies duckies I like the idea of using rebar for a frame. I keep pondering on whether to build a hoop house or not. Seems I never have enough individual pens available.
I've been feeding the FF to the olandsk and the Swedish flower hens the last couple days. They seem to like it but I think they miss scratching for food. I continue to treat their colds. The denaguard is definitely working better than the duramycin did.

Happy new year everyone!!! We are up after being up late... Ringing in the new year banging on pans and blowing trumpet blasts :) Sledding is the plan in a few minutes. My oldest will be coming back home today from Atlanta where her band took Grand Champion overall and for field and parade and played the halftime at the Chick Fil A bowl. Proud mama day! Made home made bread as French toast for when we come in from sledding and potato soup and cornbread ready for later. I love cooking with my own chicken eggs!!
So sorry so many folks are sick!! These flu bugs are horrible this year. I hope you all feel better quickly!
Momma hen- I love that kitchen set! I am taking a pic of it to share with our preschool teacher in hopes that she can find someone to make her one. Too cute!
I hope the new chicks and their transports all arrive home safely. It is slippery out there!
Danz, I so feel your pain. Unbelievable bad luck with the deer, being sick, pain from metal and the cold and a good friend leaving you..... The joy of the new little pups will hopefully ease some of it as well as time with that beautiful soon to be princess :)
Wishing you all a wonderful 2013!!

Congrats

Thanks :) I am pretty proud if her. They worked their tail ends off for months and months to accomplish this. She has learned some valuable lessons in life.

Hey, Danz, do you still have any favarolles? We decided ours is so sweet that we are going to try to hatch a few of those and buckeye, silkie and maybe some wheaten ameracauna eggs in the incubator I just broke down and bought :) hoping they are all calm and laid back birds! I have no idea really where to buy the hatching eggs for the breeds we picked other than online. Any pointers? I think I am going to do this at school with one of the gen Ed classes my students are in to help with including them more. One of my students adores a cartoon chicken:)

Yes I do. And Sam finally has figured out what to do. They are laying very little these days. Did you buy eggs or do you need some? Most of those girls are in different stages of molt. I haven't done any test hatches yet to see if he is fertile or not. I love the faverolles. They are so easy going.

Happy New Year to everyone! I always enjoy having a "new year" and think of it as possibly "my best year ever"! I, too, am really glad to be a part of this group. Friendships made and the support given through the best and worst times are a real blessing. I've learned so much from each of you, chicken related and otherwise.

Hawkeye, I sure hope you get well soon. It is so hard to cover all the bases when we aren't at full steam. It's even hard to make the silliest decisions. Sigh.

medawinks, the thought of hatching really made me perk up and I love all the breeds you've chosen. That will be so much fun!

Tweety, just a note to say I'm thinking about you.

Danz,

Happy New Year to everyone! Our internet was down for most of the day & I thought it might come back up, but I had to call before they got it up again, so it just got back online.

Let's make the resolution for 2013 to be nicer to our birds, nicer weather conditions for them & less sickness & loss.

Well I'm off to go have some girl time, boy I'll be glad when my DH goes back to work tomorrow. He gets on my nerves when he's underfoot for so long. I hope you all have a good rest of the day & try to stay warm, it's cold out there, BRRRR!

I have aDLM question. I stir up my litter almost daily but keep getting an ammonia smell when I do so. It isnt too strong but it is there. I know that I need some moisture to get it decomposing but how much is too much?
Friday is my lockdown date on my first hatch. I am so excited. I am going to put a shallow pan in teh bottom with a couple of wet rags so I can hike up humidity.
All my other chicks should be here this week sometime I am also excited about that too. So many good things this week, I hope good news is coming for everyone else as well. I will post pics when new babies arrive, and when new babies hatch. I am excited to begin hatching for people who have already asked for chicks. I am hatching mixed chicks right now if anyone wants any let me know.
