Chickendanz, thank you for posting that link of footprints. It is even better than the one I was looking at.
Trish, glad to hear that the pyr has a home. My pyr was an indoor dog, but in the really cold weather, I used to have a hard time getting him in the house. He thrived on the cold, the rest of the year he was a couch potato with the rest of us or guarding the door. I think my household, three young children, two other dogs and three cats were his "herd" to guard. He was the most awesome dog ever, and the birds and squirrels loved the hair I would leave out for their nests after I brushed him. One day I will have another...
Josie, We used to live in a 100 plus year old house. My husband, who is a carpenter, did replace some of the plaster. What a mess! Even though he sealed the other rooms, dust would get everywhere. We had horse hair plaster. When I lived in that house, I was constantly sick with colds, about 4 times a year. I moved out four years in May, and haven't had a cold since. I really think those walls used to make me sick.
I went down to let the chickens and the ducks out this morning, and there was an orange cat in the trap. He wasn't very happy. We have seen him before, not sure if he is a stray or owned by somebody. We hadn't seen him in a while, so we thought a coyote had gotten him. The trap was a couple feet from the chicken coop, my daughter said the chickens were making some humming noises at the cat.
My husband said this week two days in a row, he saw a coyote in our yard. It walked right by the ducks ( I have seen one do this too ), we think the ducks just make so much noise that it doesn't scares them away. I have four females, and I swear they are louder than the roosters. Hopefully, the chicken coop is stronger enough now for any predators. I did notice the night after my two were taken, there were paw prints in the snow on the roof over the nesting boxes. I have a glass window over that, so it is almost like a coyote was looking into the window.
