Maidenwolf, I found a few more pics of your chicks on my camera and I uploaded them to the same folder.

BYC doesn’t like to upload pics for me so I’m uploading the pics I took yesterday onto photobucket. Included in this folder are:

* 2 pics of the stacked cages, I need to get more pics because these don’t show enough.
*A few pics of at least one of the barred rocks from Danz.
*Toby, the lavender orp from Josie.
*Chief and Banshee from Maidenwolf.
*Tracks from what I am guessing got our turkey Colt(from Maidenwolf) a couple of nights ago . I wish I had put something next to them so you could see the size of these prints better. They look like huge dog prints and you can clearly see the claws/nails too. From looking at the link from Danz, I’m thinking they are coyote because the outside toes are more spread away from the two inside ones.

Ocap, the Mandarin is beautiful. I’ve never seen a duck so colorful before. I had to look up what pinioned meant. I don’t think I could do that myself.

Maidenwolf, those chicks were beautiful when you got them and it’s so amazing to see how they change as they grow in their feathers. They are just going to be really pretty birds.

Sharol, OMGosh!!! That is a huge egg. I was just looking at chicks to order from the hatchery and the Delawares keep getting my attention. They’re very pretty. It almost looks like there were 3 yolks in that egg.

Michelle, I think I am going to use it as a brooder. It wouldn’t be big enough to keep big chicks in for long though. It’ll be great for the first few weeks for sure. We just need to get it wired for the right lights and it’ll be good to go.
wonderful pics thank you.
These chicks are changing and are so beautiful for sure. I cant wait to see what they end up looking like

Michelle, we do have chain link and it's 6 ft. tall.  We have nothing on top of it as of yet.   We haven't had a lot of predator troubles but just recently something got our turkey.  Why on earth the turkey with all those chicks out there?  I'll never figure that out.  The turkey was injured by a big dog, and I found some tracks that are either dog or coyote.  Maybe the same dog came back for it.

Sorry to hear about the turkey

Josie yes I do have injectable Ivermectin. I thought about trying that any way, but had no idea how to dose for a cat. I haven't seen any fleas on her although I doped her with front line as soon as they took her from the car. I haven't had a flea on a dog or cat for years and I sure didn't want to introduce any. I was thinking maybe hook worm or something. Her hair was really matted and someone had given her a hair cut to some extent. But her hair look lifeless. My cats have always been ultra shiny so I am guessing she probably looks like an average feral cat would. Poor thing. I asked Eileen and she hasn't been wormed in years. She is an older cat, maybe close to 10 years old, although she doesn't act old. That is why I took her because I knew at her age she would probably die with a bunch of sick barn cats. I've been giving her some fancy feast chicken that I bought for Biggy. The other cats don't like it much. It's nice and moist. She is drinking water and she has two different kinds of dry food to choose from. I'll ask Eileen if she can find out what kind of food she had been eating. It wasn't Eileen's cat it was a cat a friend of her's had. So all my info is going through 3rd party.
I'd really appreciate the Ivermectin dosage.
Mammahen I didn't compare tracks cause my internet is running really slow these days. But those tracks look very dog like so my guess would be dog or coyote.
Well I got a ton of birds moved to their new grow out shack today. Holy crap I had no idea I had that many. I loaded the cage and DH took them to the new digs. So this 16 X 7 trailer is full of birds. I marked certain breeds with colored tywraps in hopes of not getting rid of something special. At least I have a better idea of what I actually have now so I can figure out who gets to stay and who has to go. Even with all that moving I still have almost 50 birds in the brooder. I left the red stars and white rocks in there. I had to spread them out so I didn't gain much room yet. It is so cold out there. I didn't have on gloves and I had to run warm water over my fingers to get the feeling back in them. I am so glad to have that done. I need to get more shavings cause I used an entire bag in the camper. And I need desperately to clean out the brooder again and start fresh.
Sharol I discovered I have two roos and one pullet in the campines. Dang! That is disappointing. Sounds like someone is going to be dinner later on.

Danz, you're going to have to take lots of pics so we can see all of this amazing work! I don't think those birds are calling it a 'shack' either, they have shelter and they're living in the luxury suite. :)

Poor birds went from a nice warm brooder to a cold camper. I do have a heat lamp in there although all the birds shouldn't need one at their age. If the weather was warmer they wouldn't have gotten one. I'm hoping just getting them moved will save me some work. All those individual sections to feed and water take forever to do. Now they have a couple water bowls instead of the one gallon waterers. That alone saves me time. I put three big pans in there with feed but at least one of them will come out. I was trying to keep them from all trying to eat at the same time.
I'm going to have to increase the amount of fermented feed I produce. I feed more and more birds with it all the time and I need bigger containers to get it going.
I started a new one today with brewers yeast I bought from a beer and wine making business in KC. I plan to cook it for a couple days then start feeding it to the geese and peacocks. It should be really good for them. Maybe it will make the geese smart enough to figure out how to lay fertile eggs this year for me!!!

Who was it that was talking about thiamine defficiency in chicks? I just read that there is a drug called amprollium in medicated chick starter. I didn't read this on any official study, but I think it was from a link that Trish posted, not the same page but from the same site. I think it was Trish. I've appreciated the link btw, it has a lot of good information and food for thought to say the least. The link is here...

I guess this drug is supposedly to inhibit the growth of cocci, but it does it by causing thiamine defficienty. I always thought of cocci as bacteria but this talks about protazoa and I'm a bit confused but trying to comprehend. I'm not sure what a good alternative would be to medicated chick starter would be. I haven't read that far yet, I hope there are some good conclusions.

Danz, how are you liking using brewer's yeast to ferment the feed? I've tried using regular baking yeast just to use it up, what I had was over a year old. It worked great.

Don't you love this color? I have mille fleur cochins and they are still a project so their color has some work but they are cutie pies. I have mine cochins in with my orps right now for winter. In fact I went out last night to dose everyone with ivermectin and one of my cochin hens was jammed in between two orp hens and she was so snuggled in there I couldn't even see her until I parted the fluff! I bet she had a nice, toasty place to sleep.
I saw a picture of some very beautiful hens on fb page i follow i think they are called Mille Fleur Bantam Hens. Can you keep bantam with buff orpingtons? Or are they too small? How do they do with cold and heat?
I have never had d'uccles but I have heard they are very friendly little birds. I LOVE my bantam cochins, they are the sweetest little things. Very much pets, love to be held and fussed over, especially if you hand raise them. I have a few buff cochin girls in the garage that I need to find a home for that the friendliest little things because they have been in a cage and handled.
Danz i would like a few more hens but just can't make up my mind

Darn, I can only see pics of the chicks? I was all excited to see Toby! His princely pooping self.

I will PM you with a dose of dewormer. I fear by the sound of your description of her coat that she may have a problem in her mouth. She should still groom herself to look nice and not get matted if she is healthy. The other thing it could be is a thyroid problem. That is tough to get info when it is going through two people before you get it. Poor girl, glad she didn't get pitched out into a barn full of sickies, she would have been a goner for sure.

I actually got quite a bit done today for a change. I got everyone's feed and water filled, went to the feed store, cleaned part of the house, moved Lucie out to the garage, went to the dump and dropped of recycling. Phew!

I am losing multi posts. I remember hitting a quote on Hawkeyes latest post but it isn't here? Is that happening to anyone else?
