Danz, that actually looks very doable with the truck topper. I may have to do something like that later on. Right now I'm just rushing to try to get this breeder coop done.

Well I sold my last SFH rooster today, so that was nice to get him out of the rabbit hutch finally & he will have some new girlfriends. The guy that bought him doesn't have any other SFH at the moment, but maybe he'll be back later to get some chicks from me. He talked about your Aloha chickens KarenS, so he may be watching for some of your culls. He said he just wants some pretty birds for eye candy & to lay eggs, he isn't interested in showing & he lives over your direction.

We had a pretty good afternoon with our granddaughter today, she keeps us hopping when she's here, so I'm pretty tired now since she left. I still don't quite have all my energy back yet or stamina, so having her today was a little bit of a challenge, but it was good to see her.

I wondered about feeding suet when it is really cold out. This was an interesting article. I am sure the girls would love it.
Welcome back!! Glad to hear you are hanging in there, sounds like lots of bumps in the road lately, we have all missed you!
I am slowly catching up on reading posts! I have missed this board terribly! Between having traded my phone and given my oldest my 4s iphone and switching to a 5 and having to replace it 2x because it kept freezing, and all possible complications adjusting to a new normal schedule following my dad's recent stroke, sick kids, kids having school issues, car brakes going out.... You get the idea.... I am just majorly behind on anything and everything...... I need a month of no responsibilities just to catch up on the ones I haven't kept up with....

I love reading though and am quietly trying to catch up!!! I am hoping all the sickness I have been reading is long gone!
It does! I can't believe we got the whole thing unloaded. We had a very good friend come out and she is a very hard worker. Kept us motivated all day for sure. The washer and dryer did get delivered, thank heavens. They are really nice, I can see doing lots of loads of cloth diapers in there! We have set a fair number of posts for the chicken pens and are working on setting up our first desperate plea for help to everyone so stay tuned!
Josie I'll bet it feels good to have the pod moved. One more step toward the big move!! Did your washer and dryer make it in as scheduled?
If I leave the ghetto where it is I really would like to get the rest of the paint off of it and repaint the graphics so it looked cool again. No reason it has to look so awful other than it's one more project. At any rate it was a lot of work, but for the price and being able to tow it down the road it made a convenient building. Luckily the tires off of DH's boat trailer fit perfectly so that problem was solved. The old tires and wheels had rotted into the ground. The chickens seem to be pretty content in there for now. It holds the heat amazingly well although a lot of the insulation is gone.
Wow! That wind is blowing something insane today. Of course I haven't seen all the predicted rain but that doesn't surprise me.
I really need to keep myself busy inside today regardless of what the weather does. It's supposed to be really warm but I can't let that side track me.
Good job! Sounds like you have done everything you can for her and now she just needs to mend. I hate butcher day but once it is over I am always so relieved to have no fighting and squawking. And of course the girls are happier too!! I have a few boys that are coming into their own out there that need to go to the chopping block. One of them kinda gave me the hairy eyeball the other day so he earned himself a spot on the short list.
Josie- Thank you, I have already washed with soap and water and plucked some feathers. It cleaned up nicely. There is no bad smell. It kind of smells like rawhide really, but not rotted or rancid. My roos dont have pointed ends on their spurs yet. I am going to double check on it though. I got rid of a couple guys and things have settled down. There is no fighting to mate anymore.
Wow! It is looking awesome!!! I have not had the best of luck on the FB chicken swap. I think because so many folks are far away from each other. Although I have had people really near me too and they didn't want to come all the way to get birds so I think it attracts a different crowd than craigslist. I feel like the market for birds has been pretty rotten anyway. I sold a bunch of birds for next to nothing and now I think I will wait until spring to sell some extra pullets to see if I can get a fair amount for them.
Just a couple of current photos of the barn. DIdn't get as far along this past week, as the main builder was not here, and kinda mad my DH unhappy. The tin and trim should go up fast if the weather is nice. Sure hope so. The first picture is of the south side. What tin is up, above that is where the "sky light" material will be for natural lighting. I will have regular lights in side. I will also have lots of windows, just not sure where they go, will know more when the tin goes on.

This next picture is looking west thru the barn. You can see the cement pad, that is where my "work room" will be. I will have a sink, fridge, brooder, incubator, hatcher. Book shelf, cabnets hopefully a desk and chair. I am starting to get excited!!

I advertised some of my birds on the poultry swap page, but not had anybody come, so now I going to advertise on craigslist. I need to sell some birds.

I have several breeds to go, so if you want some adult birds, I just may have what you are looking for.
Windy here today too, but I plan on being in the barn most of the day(old barn) and start getting stuff out and cleaned up, and placed in tubs, so when moving day happens, all I have to do, is unload the tubs in the cabinets!!

WOW-- I find this really interesting. I want to know more when you get into this. I don't know that I ever want to make a business of out my silkies, but the thought has crossed my mind. But don't think I would need to go so far as creating an entity with a tx ID, as I'm pretty sure my yearly income would be paltry and not much at all!
I have toyed with the idea of making the birds a business but I don't know if I really want to see how much money we lose on them. I am thinking of starting a website to sell hatching eggs and maybe chicks someday if I have a big enough incubator to make it worthwhile. I need to do something to offset their food and care cost and I do have decent stock in a few breeds.

Whew, it's been a long day. Had the B-Day party today and I grilled BBQ chicken outside. Ooooh, I love BBQ. I was able to smoke it/cook it and it was just the best chicken ever. I do that so infrequently, I really should do that more often. Went to church first thing this morning and then came home and cooked and everyone had a great time. Been working on a graphic project. Actually this is one, when I get it done, I'll show you!
Fun birthday party! Glad you guys had a good time, it was a pretty decent day to be outside and use the grill.
Welcome!!! Danz is down your way near Waverly and she always has chicks. Not sure what you are looking for but you might hit her up to see what she has.

New here ... Waverly, KS and Edwardsville, KS areas. Is there a spot here to find chicks for sale? Thanks !

Welcome to everyone else new!!! Sorry I am so behind. Not enough hours in the day.

I am so sore today from working yesterday, it is incredible. The baby wakes me up a lot at night kicking. Seems like she is a VERY active baby but not having had any others I have nothing to compare her with. She kicks really hard sometimes, think she is trying to make more room in there. My geese have been going nuts, I have several young ganders all vying for the ladies attention so that has been a noisy racket lately. The horses had their feet trimmed today and my walker was super duper NAUGHTY for the trimmer. I could have flogged him but I don't think that would have made it better. It was really windy and he was jumping and lunging all over the place. Finally had to tie him to the fence for a time out because he needed to chill. We did get him done but I was an embarrassed horse mom. It is pretty bad when your mustang stands in the barn for his trim and the walker won't even come into the barn and then almost mows the poor farrier over. I am excited to move but also kind of tired at the prospect because now I am going to have to get a new trimmer lined up to come out down there.

Wow! Lots of new people. Glad you are here.

Penny--What type of chicks are you looking for. I am in western Shawnee/Olathe, however Chickendanz is right outside of Waverly and she has a much greater selection than i do.

Josie-whew i dont know how you do it, baby coming-horses-geese -moving. You are super girl!

Checoukan-loving the barn progress, i would be like hawkeye out there doing chalk drawings, cabinet here, cage here, refrigerator here--What fun for you i am excited for you. Hopefully they can make good progress today for you since it is supposed to be 70 degrees woohoo

Trish AWESOME about the rooster!
