I had wonder'd the same thing as KsKingbee., also does being hayched from a smll pullet egg have any influence on the size of egg they will lay ?

I have another ? I have a single D'uccle, can they handle the cold here in Ks?. She will be in the main coop with the others and she has a buddy that she snuggles with. Is there a temp that would be to cold for her? Thanks in advance .

I kept my d'uccles like all of my other chickens and never had a problem. I think it is whatever they are used to they adapt. Just be sure to give them a coop where they can get out of the weather and strong north or west wind.
I don't think a pullet resulting from a pullet egg produces any smaller egg. I believe they are like any other chicken.

Well, this is getting frustrating. Twice now I've written the same thing and uploaded the same photo and twice Safari has "quit unexpectedly" before I hit submit and I've lost it all. Here goes for the third try….

Yes, it is a Christmas jar. It was the best one I had that would fit them all in and it will help me to remember about when they will be ready

I spent a couple of hours earlier today cleaning out my coop. It really needed it so it will be nice to have some fresh smelling straw in there again. I put the used litter on the veggie garden and by spring hopefully it will be nice and aged and can be rototilled in.

Good for you HEChicken, let us know how they turn out. I don't have any ducks laying yet, so I have to wait till maybe next spring to try this. Do ducks lay in the winter or just in warm weather? It's been so long since I had ducks that I really can't remember.

I've got to get up out of this chair & get out to do chores, I'm not looking forward to being out in the cold again is the reason I'm dragging my feet. I get chilled easy with being sick anyway.

Yes ducks lay in the winter but not as good as the rest of the year. The main difference is that they often aren't fertile in the winter months. They will take a break of a couple months depending on breed but not for long. I don't usually have many duck eggs toward the last of December until the end of January.

All,
I am sorry this isn't necessarily chicken related (even though he has helped us with building and moving coops multiple times )but at this point we are desperate. This is a family friend and our hearts are breaking and the only thing i can do at this point is get this flyer out in front of as many people as we can and pray that someone/anyone that knows anything will come forward.

I am sorry to be a downer but please i HAVE to try everything at this point. Thank you for understanding.

Hechicken - Looks good! If you plan to eat the eggs without anything, might want to sample one at 3 weeks to see if that's salty enough for you. I don't eat the eggs by themselves, always cook it with something or eat them with rice so that may change the soaking period for you if you plan to eat them without anything.

I'll post a pic tonight if I can get off work early enough. If not, it will be tomorrow before I soak mine.
