Here's an up date on the lone EE chick that still things it is a duck. The photos were taken after dark and the chick was roosting on a rock, They stay outside so I think I will move the chick in with my one legged turkey. His buddy chick got out and an owl got him.

I went out tonight to get an up-date photo of Momma Turkey and her nine baby turkeys. I don't know how much longer she will be able to cover the all, but she's doing a good job so far.

KingBee I would use veterycin on that eye. Once you get it open then also spray the eye with it. If you have none, the thing my pharmacist BIL suggested for eye problems was neomycin. You can buy neosporin but plain neomycin is closer to what they use for human eye problems. Do not use any with the pain killer in it. You can run warm saline water over his eye to clean it as well.
RalphMoyer my Mamma turkey that hatched the chicken chicks still totally covers the chicks with her body at night. They are half grown birds now but she is still extremely protective of them. She has lost half of them over time but not because she doesn't give it her total effort.
Plans for today are to get the turkeys moved to their new pen. Then I want to pull all the vines from the garden and burn them. DH is planning to burn some brush anyway so I am going to take advantage of it. I guess I'll pull the rest of the pepper and tomato plants as well and give those to the birds to see if there is anything they want to eat off of them.
I may have a few more green peppers out there but the plants are gone.
I still have some tender flowering plants I need to move inside but no place to keep them really. Luckily they haven't frozen yet. It's things I have had for years.
I really hate winter and prepping for it. Worse yet I hate this time of year because the hunters come out in full force and they hunt illegally on land that they don't own. I always worry about my dogs or my birds getting shot.

Sort I have not been on ive been really busy with school. I have a question though. About 2 nights ago one of my 6, month old silkie chicks (I had a hen go broody) neck started turning down, she wont raise it up, but the thing is she is having no trouble eating or drinking. As a matter of fact she acts like it has always been like that. So I was wondering if she would be ok or if its treatable....or I have to cull her :/

Polishpal if she is still walking and not experiencing any other problems she probably has a brain injury. With a split skull they are very susceptible to that. You need to open up vitamin E oil capsules and squirt them in her mouth a couple times a day. Give it a couple weeks to take effect. If she develops leg problems etc it could be a case of Mereks and then you would definitely want to cull her. Another option is to give her B vitamin complex as well. Sometimes a B vitamin deficiency will cause crooked neck as well.

Ok thanks for the help she is not having any trouble walking but she does trip on her siblings because she is looking down all the time. Also where can I get the vitamins

PolishPal, We have had two of our young Marans do the same thing. They are clutch mates but went through it a few weeks apart. We brought them into the garage and gave them high protein diet and vitamins both in the food and in the water. Within two days they were their old selves again. I have no idea why it happens or what it is called but the diet helped both of our birds.

Polishpal-Look up Wry Neck on BYC. It is pretty common in silkies an some people have had success in treating it.

I am so far behind so sorry for missed posts! Lizzy-The baby's nursery looks great! Glad to hear your little bun is still in the oven too!

I hate winter most of all, I hate getting ready for it & the darned cold makes me hurt so bad. I've been out today putting some straw in pens & still have more to go yet. I will need more straw, but I think I might have enough to do the pens for now. I just will need to get some more before winter. I have someone who will deliver it for me for a little more, so I will have to contact her next month & have some more brought. I still need to get some clear plastic tarps for the sides of my hoop coops & a few more tarps to put up yet. I've been picking up my summer waterers too & getting them cleaned up to store. I got a few rubber pans to put in for winter in the pens I can't get electricity to & still need a couple more yet. I'm planning to go out tomorrow & do some more things since it's supposed to be warmer.

Josie, I'm glad you stopped in, we're always glad to see you here.

Danz, I'm glad you got your turkey pen done & can move your birds to their new pen, I'm sure they will enjoy it.

I would still like to build one more hoop coop to divide up my peafowl & guineas into two different pens. I know the peafowl would love to have some quiet away from the guineas.
