Consolidated Kansas

Cherwill, rainy weather is the worst time to own ducks. They do NOT want to go into the coop while there are all those wonderful puddles to play in. Many rainy nights I've been out there with a broom trying to "shoo" them in, and as a group they'll pretend to walk towards the door then at some signal I never see or hear, they break in 2-3 different directions and run back to the puddles. You wouldn't want to be around at bed time on a rainy night because you'd get tired of hearing me begging and pleading with them to "Please just go IN" LOL.

Welcome Chirpy chicks. Where abouts in East Central Kansas? You can just give a general area if you like. Just wondering who is near you. I'm considered East Central Kansas as well.

Hello and welcome! What kinds of pullets do you have, and are there pictures?!
Are there pictures?!?!? Well of course! I have two barred rocks, two black sex links, and two red sex links. Here is a picture from a few weeks ago when I gave them a small bit of straw to play in.

And I guess they were in a hurry to lay those eggs on this cold morning because almost all the eggs where already in the box this morning :)

Thank you!

Hello Kansas people

On this cold cold day I figured I'd get on here and try to find some locals :) I'm located in east central Kansas, enjoying a blistering 28* right now

I have six pullets, all who turned 8 months old today. I guess I should go out and check their water again, what a pain in the rear!

Welcome & tell us about your chicks. We love seeing pics too if you have some. Well you were posting at the same time I was. It looks like you have some nice birds there. I love the Barred Rocks, they're just laying machines through everything. I just got heritage Barred Rocks for the first time this year too.

Well I'm going to have to bite the bullet & go out there & see if my birds are faring OK, dreading it. My DH went out to split wood, geez could he have picked a worse day to decide to do that.

Welcome Chirpychicks , this is a great thread .
Trish44- or OQB , did it seem to take a while to get the "Rooster booster wormer"? I order it over a week ago and still no sign of it . I didn't sign in as a member on the Flemmings web site I just ordered it as a guest, wonder if that makes a difference ?
I just googled the cookie tin heater, BRILLIANT ! Hubby might let it fly with the GFI outlet, anyone ever had any trouble with them . I have some city folk coming for Thanksgiving , not sure they'll be able to wrap their head around it, if they go out looking for eggs they might start looking for cookies. Lol

LOL! I talk to my dogs and hens all the time, and I have neighbors around to hear it!

Thank you!

Yea, pretty birds! DH wants some kind of sex link next time; he really likes the looks of the Gold Stars. It makes sense because we can't have roos in town, but I really like having a variety of birds. They're all so pretty in their own ways.

Does anyone know much about the bird show that is in Hutchinson this weekend, on the 16th?

I had a question about cold weather. We have 2 windows this size, on the north and south. I have the north sided one closed, but have left the south open.

Should it be shut at night as well? Or will they be ok?

Also, their entrance door is not closed at night, but 3 of the current chickens I have sleep there on the ground, just right inside the door, will they move if they get to cold?

Thanks!

** Edited to add** I bought a wireless temp guage and its reading 39 in the coop, while its 36 outside, so only a few degrees warmer right now
