Consolidated Kansas

Oh my goodness Josie, I can't believe your little munchkin is standing & trying to walk already, where does the time go! She will be getting into everything then if she is doing that.

It's now 21 degrees here but the wind is also blowing some so it's not a pleasant day to go out & do chores. I'm kind of glad it's not me having to go out there today, I guess broken legs are a blessing sometimes.

I have eggs that are due to hatch today, but so far no pips, we'll see what happens.

I called the locker and they weren't happy but I guess what can they do? She said I could just keep it in the trunk of my car. I had to laugh. Of course I don't have a trunk.
I've got to get the other freezer defrosted so I guess I am just going to put it outside and hope I can keep the animals out of it.
Wow Josie. Unbelievable that she is doing that. It seems like she should still be a tiny baby!!!

Man, I wish Spring would quit teasing us. So beautiful yesterday and today the artic blast is back. The wind came up fierce just as we came inside from enjoying the beautiful day. No damage, just some buckets blown across the pasture. Extremely cold out there today, guess I should get the heated dog bowl waterers in place now that KKB has electric in the coops. The wild birds are really hanging around the feeders today. We've started taking the one down when we see the turkeys coming.
All of you taking about hatching little fuzzy butts has me getting the fever. I'm going to try to resist for a couple more months. Trish, I hope there is some piping going on at your house. Danz I hope your eggs will be okay. I am in search of the ultimate, perfect, awesome FCB Marans rooster. The guy we have is really nice and the perfect gentleman but he does have flaws. So, if I'm looking for perfection in the chicks we raise....
Here is my egg count from yesterday.
400

Two new pullet eggs!

Hi Michele,
Yes, our chicken ration is made from organic, hornone and GMO-free grain. It is $0.45/lb. We have it in bulk tanks so you will need to bring your own container. If you'd like to purchase some, give us a call so we can expect you. 620-663-1470. The first time you'll need some instruction on where to find it and after that you're welcome to come as you like.

It's cold currently 17. The wind was crazy I was afraid my house would blow away.

KKB, actually DH is on his way to pick up a new upright I put on a charge card. I am trying to figure out how we will find room for it cause it's a lot bigger than the one that isn't quite working right. I'm also defrosting the other big one we have. At least the stuff won't thaw outside. I just put it all in a big plastic truck box for now.
I ran out to check on the brooder chicks and see they managed to unplug the heater out there. They were also out of water. I was really hoping I could get by without doing much for chores. I guess I'll have to check on the rest of them. I hate this worthless cold weather!

Well there is one egg pipping, but it's been the same for a few hours now, they seem slow to get started. Maybe they're feeling the same as I am today, they just want to stay in their warm cozy shells. Can you blame them? The BC Marans eggs I have incubating are due to hatch the 31st & with all of the eggs I got I'm sure I will have some extra cockerels if you want to wait a bit & see how these turn out. I only need one cockerel for my laying flock, so any other than that I will be trying to sell or if you have something I want we could maybe do a trade. I'm just wanting one to breed for olive eggers. I would love to add another egg color to my egg basket. Oh BTW, I love the bee plate!

My chickens really haven't even been thrilled about being out today in this cold, I think most of them are back in the coop earlier than usual. I think some of my breeder birds are just starting back up with laying again. I hope some more of them get busy.
