Ewwww....one or both of my dogs got skunked last night - right in the chicken yard. So glad they have no expectations about coming in the house and also glad they were there to prevent loss of chicks or eggs.
Sam and Holly got skunked the night I got back from Florida - they smell terribleEwwww....one or both of my dogs got skunked last night - right in the chicken yard. So glad they have no expectations about coming in the house and also glad they were there to prevent loss of chicks or eggs.
My GPs also got skunked again last night, phew they stink bad! The skunks really have been active lately, this is twice in the last couple weeks these dogs have gotten sprayed.Ewwww....one or both of my dogs got skunked last night - right in the chicken yard. I've been setting eggs in the incubator. I'm officially out of space. That means I need to fire up a second one before I can set any more eggs. I have some due to hatch tomorrow that are already starting to pip. Maybe that will give me a fraction more room. The other eggs in there aren't far enough along I feel good abut tossing them if I don't see development. Maybe in a few days I can candle those and see if I can make some room. I really wish it were warmer out. I would feel a lot better about finding a place to put spring chicks if it were.
It turned out to be a really nice afternoon, we had to run to Wichita to do some shopping & I was surprised when we went out to eat lunch how warm it was. I didn't even need my coat while we were out. I'm finally going to be able to get my two peahens I've been waiting on getting for two months. That peacock out there will be in heaven when he sees his two new girls!Yep, Lizzy, I have to agree about the safety - when you know there is one out there, its better to keep them in until it has moved on in search of easier prey.
It must be skunk breeding season or something! I was gone most of today and lost count of how many dead skunks I passed out on the highway. Between that and all the anecdotes of dogs getting skunked, they must really be on the move. I still don't know if one or both of mine got it because they are together most of the time and all I know is the smell is strong wherever they go. I haven't felt like petting them to find out which is the worst. I'm really thankful they were there. The birds were all locked up safely but if it hadn't encountered the dogs, it might have hung around until the auto door opened this morning.
Well, tomorrow is supposed to be nice again and then lousy weather this weekend. I will be outdoors a lot the next few days so am not looking forward to the sub-freezing weekend.
