Consolidated Kansas

samjo06 welcome to our group. I'm not close enough but there are a couple that live up that direction....not sure how close they are to you though.
I think a lot of these people that have a half dozen chickens don't realize how much time it takes when you have lots of birds and lots of pens. But I have had people that call under the pretense of wanting stuff then proceed to call back over and over and talk about everything but birds. Those are the ones that really drive me nuts.
The other thing that drives me insane is time. If you set an appointment time be there!! I can understand mishaps and as much as a 30 minute window if you don't know your way. But I don't have time to sit around and wait on someone for hours who shows up 5-6 hours late or doesn't call until the next day or two or not at all. I have adopted a policy of appointment only. And if you miss it forget it. I am trying to maintain a closed farm but when I have lots to get sold I do allow people to show up.... I just don't let them in pens or houses.
I'm waiting right now to hear from a guy who planned to come down this morning. I didn't pin point a time and if he takes a while it's okay cause I don't do mornings well anyway.

I agree Danz, if you set a time to be somewhere to pick something up then be there or let the person know you're running late. I don't mind if they at least tell me they've been delayed, but there is no excuse for several hours or not at all & no notice, it's just rude. I feel the same way you do, my time is worth as much as theirs. It's especially bad if you had to go out & catch a bird or birds for someone & then they bail on you. You have wasted your time & your energy & then got nothing for it.

cherwill you're really ambitious with 3 garden spaces, wow! I don't know how you keep up with taking care of all of that. I don't even know where I'm going to put a garden this year. I need to figure out somewhere easier for me to access without dragging hoses uphill. The other issue is keeping the goats out of it. Last year I had the tomatoes in cages & they just got to the point of really putting on fruit when the goats decided they wanted to eat the all of the plants, yes the whole plant, so I hardly got any tomatoes out of it all after growing them. I used to have a space up by the wood racks but it just got to be too much for me because my DH won't help me keep it weeded & with my arthritis that is the biggest issue.

It's been snowing like crazy here, big fluffy flakes that are sticking. I thought we were only supposed to get an inch but at this rate we'll have more for sure. Well I just looked & now it says 1 to 2 more inches by 6 p.m. The only good thing in all of that is that it's supposed to be 62 tomorrow so maybe it won't stay long this time. Monday is supposed to be 71 degrees, yay I can't wait!

Hello all! I don't normally post but I do read the posts here almost daily. I have learned so much from all of you and wanted to let you know that you have helped me without being aware of it. I started my mixed flock last May and have fallen in love with my flock. I have 2 geese, 2 turkey's and 23 chickens. I am trying to fill my basket with all colors of eggs. I was wondering if anyone was going to be hatching out any Blue Ameraucana chicks around the first of June. I have some other chicks coming then but still need some blue eggs to add to my basket. Chicken math is not my friend but I have plenty of room and I do love them all. I know that these chicks are hard to come by so if you will be hatching or know someone who is please let me know.

Thanks for reading my post. I just wish I had more knowledge to be able to share with you all. :)

You don't have to share knowledge. You can just chat. We obviously talk about anything here on this forum. Join in and tell us your spring plans.
I am still waiting for two people who haven't bothered to let me know anything at all. Grrrr! It's so cold out I haven't been out working but just the same it is very irritating. I'm done playing games with people. I don't have time to hold up my life waiting on them. I don't like carrying the phone outside because I'm afraid I'll get it wet or loose it.
I may end up going shopping later as much as I hate to go anywhere. I found some sale prices on some lumber and want to make another little breeder coop. Between a couple rebate cards and maybe $25 out of pocket I can slap one together this week if the weather is as good as they are predicting. It sure doesn't feel like it today though.
I just paid for some more English Orpington eggs. I sure hope I get a decent hatch because they were super expensive. I used money I got paid for some birds I sold last week. I'm not getting exactly what I wanted because the breeder had a fox attack but I should still get a few.
Like I don't have enough eggs of my own to hatch! But I want to add a couple more colors.

Such a cold day! I made my little 2-week old lambs a coat out of sleeves from an old sweater I was going to donate to Goodwill.

I have chicks due to hatch on Saint Patrick's Day and will be filling up the incubator again the following day! Then will start hatching some turkeys and possibly ducks. I love hatching season!

Woohooo, spring break almost here! We are going to Tybee Island to get away from our kids and jobs!!!

Then I will be looking for some chicks.

Samjo.... when might you need some assistance, if not during spring break I might be able to help you.

Danz, keep me in mind cuz I am wanting some of your layers if possible. I will travel south no probs.

I might be interested in some blue layers as well.

I got lumber last night to build another breeder coop hopefully this week. I had like $60 in rebates and caught some stuff on sale. So my final out of pocket was only $30. I even added some extra 2X 4s because I always misfigure or need them for another project. Now to find the time to get it done. It's a new design I came up with and I hope it works okay.
I've got to go out and get some roosters gathered up and take them to town pretty soon. I had a hard time sleeping last night cause I had some back and neck pains that wouldn't let up so I am running way behind. What a night to have a time change too!
DH starts long hours for at least 6 weeks tonight so my help is gone for some time.
I have a huge pile of eggs on the counter I need to get ready to stick in the incubator. The weather may not be there yet but my work load certainly is.
I bought some onion sets so maybe I'll even get in the garden this week if they weather holds up. That would be amazing. I am never on time with gardening.

It sounds like you got a good deal on the lumber Danz, good for you! I wish I could find a good deal on some. I need to build another hoop coop soon. I'm sorry you had a bad night & lost an hour of sleep as well.

I've got to get out there this afternoon while it's decent out & get some things done myself. The rabbit cages always need cleaning out, I'll be glad when they can go back outside. I also need to go down & fix the fence where the goat has been sticking her head through so she can go & find another spot to get stuck in.

My last two Cream Legbar roosters are leaving this evening, yay! Two down a few more to go. I'm planning to move my bigger chicks from the brooder out to the growout pen this afternoon as well. They've just been wreaking havoc in the brooder. I have to get the others moved over & get ready for new ones in a few days.

What a night to have a time change too!
I hear ya! My DH and I completely forgot about the time change until 6 o'clock this morning (actually 7am). My DH was supposed to be to work at 7AM, and we are quite a ways out in the country. By the time he got to work this morning, he was probably 45 minutes late. Oops! Thankfully, I didn't have to be to church until 9:30 this morning, and I got there with time to spare... BUT in my hurry to get out the door, I forgot about half the stuff I was supposed to bring to church today. I am responsible for the breakfast snacky foods served during sunday school and I completely forgot! One of the other ladies covered for me by running to walmart and picking up some donut holes. Sheesh! What a way to start the day off! The good news is that the weather is absolutely gorgeous here! The high for today is 76*F and tomorrow is supposed to be similar. Then, Tuesday is supposed to be back to being cold again, with a chance of rain during the day and snow that night. We really need the moisture, so I'm hoping we get something out of it.

As tired as I'm getting of the frigid cold, I am also hesitant to wish for spring. I am NOT looking forward to (rattle) snake season and severe weather season, both of which come with spring. With a new little one, I wonder how I'm going to handle this spring. Hopefully, this spring will not be like the one two years ago where we counted the days we did NOT see snakes because those were fewer than the days we did see snakes (and the snakes we saw were almost always rattlesnakes). This last summer, we saw mostly bull snakes, which was nice but they look so stinkin' much alike that they both scare the bejeebers out of me. As for the spring storms, we REALLY need the rain, but I'd be happy with a nice all-day rain, rather than a strong thunderstorm. If we have another year like the last couple, we won 't have much in the way of a pasture this year, which will cause all kinds of troubles. The grass is trying to start greening up now, so now would be a fantastic time to get some rain (or even some snow).

Hi all im glad im not the only one verging on an angry nervous breakdown.. ive been working on getting sheep since jan. I was going to get a ladys flock of icelandics in wi. I was waiting on my cd to roll over and she knew that so ive been getting fencing ready as weather permited got a way lined up to go get them then last minute right before I get the money she backs out saying shes selling them to someone else. So needless to say im very depressed and upset as I was really looking foward to having large fluffy things roaming about... ok thats my angry rant of the day any one else? Lol
