Consolidated Kansas

Chickenrookie I envy you. I would love to go somewhere. It's too busy around here to think of going anywhere at all in the spring. But it's the time of year I should make money as well.
Trish I got the lumber at Menards. They have some sale prices on right now which helped a lot. It's easier to go on line and search than to look at the flyer and tell what is what.
I've been up way too late the last two nights. It takes me so long to adjust to the time change. I really wish they'd just leave it on standard time. Late light on summer nights just keeps me up late. I still work until dark but it makes me go to bed too late and get up too early accordingly.
I got my garlic uncovered yesterday and it looks like I got a fairly decent stand. I need to pull some wheat that has sprouted from the straw that was on it though. I was asking my Chinese friend about when to plant my onions and he offered me some young plants. Next time I bring him eggs I think he'll give me some. He grows his onions year round and doesn't ever replant. I need to find out how he does that.
This weather is just crazy. It's supposed to get in the low 70s today and then tomorrow night they are forecasting 1-2 inches of snow. Still looks like a decent weather week other than Wednesday though.

Well we got quite a bit accomplished yesterday that needed to be done. My DH cleaned out the rabbit trays for me & we got those all put back in. While he was at the gym I went out & fixed the goat fence for the front of the pen so hopefully there isn't anywhere the goat can get her head stuck any more. The front of the pen was the only place left that didn't have other fence over the livestock panels. Those panels are good for making pens, but the problem is that the larger squares are just the right size for them to get their head in & then get it stuck. I also got the growout pen all cleaned out & put fresh straw in before moving the RIR chicks from the temporary pen in the run in there & also the bigger chicks from in the brooder in the house. I turned the heat lamp back on, so I hope they'll be OK. They were just getting too big for in there & making a huge mess, so it was time for them to move out. Today I plan to get their brooder they were in cleaned out again & move the chicks in the other one over to get ready for new chicks due on Friday.

My ducks sure are cranking out the eggs now. I don't want to incubate any yet until it's warm enough for them to go in the stock tank in the garage. Ducks are messy little things. These will be my first ducklings to hatch, so that's kind of exciting. For those who don't know, I have Ancona ducks, these are some I got from Danz & they're lavender & 1 blue. I would like to get some chocolates if I can find some this spring too.

cleansquared I meant to say I'm sorry about what happened with the lambs. Maybe you can find some more soon, there should be lots born in the spring.

Loved the weather today and I just plain wore myself out. I painted the roof and fascia and the base of a chicken hut DH was working on. He had said it needed painted before he could finish it. I doubt he'll work on it at all cause he only has one day off this week but at least when he gets the urge he can put the roof cap on. That is all that is left to do. I was going to get started on the one I wanted to build but there are too many other things I had to get done today. The phone rang a lot as usual but no new sales so far. A couple of Iffys I guess you could say, and a couple who didn't want to pay more than meat prices for grown imported breeders. I just refuse to sell a bird I paid $50 for as a chick for $5 to $10 as a grown breeding age bird.
MichelleML I'd bet that OkieQueenBee and KSKingBee have some of those eggs. Might send them a PM.
I had a friend drop by and we were looking at birds. One of my young peacocks who was fine earlier was laying down. I picked him up and thought I'd better get him in and get him wormed and give him some pedialite or something. I handed him to her to hold while I grabbed a couple of hens and he died shortly after. What the Heck? Now I've got another necropsy to do. It's just plain crazy.

Danz you sound like you were busy as usual today. I spent most of the day outside, but had to come in & take rest breaks inbetween tasks. After taking two months off from doing chores while recuperating it's going to take awhile to get back into the swing of things again. I got it all done, but in stages. I also cleaned out the stall in the breeder coop where the Salmon Faverolles used to be & started to clean out the outside pen as well but needed another tool & ran out of steam, so it will have to wait till tomorrow. I went around & put fresh straw in nest boxes & checked all the water. I need to start cleaning out the main coop, but maybe I'll wait a few days until I feel stronger to start on it. I'm hoping Orschelyn's puts pine shavings on sale soon too because I need a bunch.

Danz, sorry about your peacock, I hope you find out what is going on with them.

I hope everyone was out enjoying the weather today, it was just glorious. Tomorrow is supposed to be more of the same, yay!

Thanks Dan are they in this group? Sorry about your peacock wonder what happened

I am really enjoying this weather. My insane chickens, who were laying 1-2 eggs a day in the cold, decided not to lay any today. Too nice? How picky are they!?!

Mine actually laid better yesterday, I think they were having too much fun outside today.

WichitaKidd, we haven't seen you around for a long time. Stop in & see us once in awhile. How are your chickens doing?
