Consolidated Kansas

josie good luck on your packing, it has to be hard after just moving not that long ago & now doing it again. We're going to miss you, I hope you will stop back in after you get settled & visit once in awhile even though you won't be in KS any more.

X2 on that. Josie, I know what you mean about it being an opportunity to get rid of junk, though. I have a basement full of stuff DH can't let go because we might need it some day.

I'd love the chance to weed some of it out.

My youngest daughter is here from Minot, ND. She and her husband moved up there from here nearly two years ago when he took an engineering job with the railroad. They currently own a house south of augusta that they've had rented until now. Her renter has just abandoned ship, and left her with a terrible mess to clean up before she can get the house listed to sell. She called me when she left there this morning to let me know that the renter abandoned three crested ducks. He just left them there penned up. Who does that to any living being?

It's sad, but that kind of thing happens more often than I would have thought. Years ago, we found an adorable border collie. She wasn't a tiny pup, but wasn't full grown, either. She was well groomed, had a collar with no tag, and had had a bit of basic training, though not much. We were certain her owners, who had obviously taken good care of her, would be looking for her. We went to every vet in town and they put up a notice, but every one of them told us not to expect a response, that most people who lose a dog don't bother looking for it.

I don't understand that.

I found my little male gosling stuck in the mud today after we had a rainstorm last night. It was all muddy, cold, & couldn't get up. I brought him in & washed the mud off & dried him with the hairdryer. He's in a bin in the utility room now under a light. I brought the other one in so he wouldn't be lonely. I have given him electrolytes with a syringe a few times. I hope he makes it.

I hope he makes it, too.

I swear my luck lately has just been all types of rotten.

Then you're definitely due for a change!

Does anyone here in Kansas have Lavender Orphingtons? I'm having trouble finding a hatchery that has them.
Chicken Danz has them. Her last post is at the top of this page. I'd text her if I were you. She has quality birds. Also Chooks Chick might. I'm not sure what she still has.

Welcome Abbytravers.
I was on the go again today. Back for another dentist appointment. Then home to care for birds again.
JosieChick I hate to see you go. The goosies are doing great though and seem very happy to be with my others. They are getting so big. It won't be long they'll be going to the big pen....if I ever get it done.
One of my geese decided to lay a late egg and is sitting on it. I'm just going to let her do it. All the others are done and even starting to get a few feathers back in.
I hatched two more peachicks today. A white and a purple. The white had splayed it's legs already before I got it out of the incubator and it wasn't dry yet so I hope my fix-it corrects them.
I had chicken eggs due to hatch yesterday and none have hatched yet. Makes me wonder if I got the date wrong on them. They all looked full sized when I candled though.
Lizzy I've never seen my turkeys do anything but yell if they see a snake. I guess if you have to eat in the wild you eat a lot more stuff.
I have been over run with snakes here lately. There was a HUGE big black snake in the shop yesterday. He got to stay for a while to eat mice.
friendshipstar, that happens way too often. I hate to see what people do to animals. They don't even attempt to rehome them often. It's so sad.

Danz, hope you are feeling better with your teeth. Snakes make the hair at the back of my head stand up. Hope it takes care of the rodents for ya. DH set traps and caught 7 the other day. I saw more in the barn storage room though.

Not only did the lousy renter leave the three ducks, he left them in a raised wire cage. It's about four feet off the ground. Maybe 3 x 3 feet and no food or water. My daughter and husband just went over to get them and bring them home.

It make me very sad to hear this. Why do people do this? Why bother keeping ducks if they don't want them and left them to die? I never understand people like this. I'm glad your daughter found them and made sure they are fed and watered. I keep ducks but I'm max'd out in terms of space for ducks. But if you can't find anyone to take them, please pm me. I'll see if I can find good homes for them.

That's sad about the ducks, I'm glad your daughter found them though. People unfortunately do that more than anybody would like. It just makes you want to treat them just like they did the animals.

Welcome AbbyTravers.

So glad your gosling is fine now! You are a good goose mama.

A lone goose won't do well. They really need companionship especially if they are already in a depressed state. Trish I hope he has picked up and is doing much better. Keep me posted and we'll work out something if you need another one.
Even though it's morning I feel overwhelmed already. Something has to give around here.
More people drama. My buyer cancelled on buying the two trios of chocolate orpingtons bantams because of storm damage, and now the guy that is buying all my LF white, lavender, and black orpingtons postponed until Monday to come get them. I guess people just think I run a holding business. I had held the chocolates over 2 weeks for this gal. Now I have to sell them again. I sure hope the other guy doesn't back out. Good grief.
I just had to fork out $1500 yesterday because my insurance denied the claim for my bottom partial work. I really could use the chicken money now. Not to mention I have to buy feed again since a good deal of it got ruined from the rain.
I swear my luck lately has just been all types of rotten. I need to do some more major downsizing before fall for sure.

Danz, sorry the insurance doesn't for your partial. I hate fighting with insurance. I went round and round with them because they denied my daughter's therapy @ Heartspring. I have all the documents from the doctors/specialist but they still denied it. What's wrong with people who think they can take advantage of you? A promise or verbal commitment is no longer valid and respected nowadays? Geeezz people...

My luck hasn't gotten better. The car I crashed has been declared as "completely totaled". Now I've to go look for another vehicle and of course my insurance premium will go up exponentially as well.

I hope your luck will turn around soon, Danz.

Oatbucket, I'm not sure where you're located, Danz has lavenders & I do too. I have a few chicks right now. I'm trying to stop hatching by the end of June, it was going to be May but I have a friend wanting chicks that I'm going to have to hatch special for her so it got moved up a month. I will still be hatching a few eggs for myself, but I need a break from hatching & selling chicks for awhile. Those little critters suck down the feed faster than anything I've ever seen.

Update on the little gosling: he's up walking around today eating & drinking, yay! I'm just glad I found him when I did. I first thought it was the female but when I went out to get the other one I figured out it was the male that got stuck in the mud. They're living in a modified hoop coop with the ducks so it of course gets muddy in there when it rains. We had a big rain & it was muddier than usual right by the front & side & that's where the little guy got stuck & couldn't get up. He lost some of his fuzz on his neck, so it kind of looks ugly now, but it will grow back. They don't have their feathers yet, so if they get wet they can't control their body temp well.

Danz, I'm sorry things have been so crappy lately for you, we'll all wish you better luck.

tweety I guess you were posting when I was, I'm sorry about your car. That's a real pain to have to car shop, I hope you can find one you like quickly.

I am selling my breeding stock. They were supposed to go this week but the buyer cancelled until Monday. I have eggs in the incubator and a few I believe are due to hatch tomorrow and then more on the 15th if I remember right. Send me a pm if you think you'll be interested. Trish also has some but she'll have to let you know if she has any available right now.

My hen is better. When I got home yesterday after work, she almost looked normal. Her neck no longer droops from time to time and she was able to hold it up. She ate like a trooper and also pooped like a trooper. LOL. I see that water was being splashed out of the little waterer so I think she is able to drink a little from it. I did get the parrot's formula and made a paste for her. She ate some of it last night. Then put St. John's wart in her water. She was quite feisty last night when I tried to give her Vit. E. All good signs. I'm quite happy with her progress. If she continues to make good progress, she will be able to rejoin her coop mate later this week or weekend.

I am like Danz, I need my luck changed for the better. Car is totaled so I've to look for another one. I do not like car shopping. Actually I don't like any kind of shopping. Any where there is crowd, I tend to shy away from. I'm a homebody and some what of a loner, I guess.

We may be getting more rain tomorrow night and Thursday. The mud is stinky but I know we need to rain though.

Enjoy your day, everyone.

So glad to hear that!!

We are so much alike. I hate being around crowds and lots of people. I tend to kind of freak out and just want to get back home. Last year when my car got totalled it took me four months to buy another one. I did my shopping on line and never looked at one until I found what I wanted. All of the dealers would say come on it and take it for a test drive, but I told them they needed to give me their best price and then I would make the trip if I decided it was worthwhile. Most of them didn't cooperate.

So glad your goose is doing okay today, Trish.
