Consolidated Kansas

I just got back from attending a seminar at K-State's new goat & sheep facility & it was really good & informative, I learned a lot. They will be having more in the near future so any of you who have goats or sheep might want to check into it. Dr. Brian Ferris is in charge of the facility & he was a very good speaker.

danz we got a lot of information on treating parasites & resistance & all of that, immunizations, grazing & browsing, & general health. Then he did demonstrations on hoof trimming & he did ultrasounds on both sheep & goats & let people try it so we got to see fetuses. That was really cool. Yeah it would be nice if they had seminars at the poultry facility. The reason the goat & sheep facility is having them now is they got a grant for it.

I think this is a record for the longest time that no one posted on the CS forum. Wow! I haven't had much to say cause I have been under the weather and unfortunately the chickens aren't getting much attention and care these days.
I have a buyer showing up today...or so they said. I sure hope it isn't brutally cold out there. He's buying a couple of Mandarins and maybe some peafowl.
I did notice the birds are eating double their normal right now. This cold weather sure makes them suck the food in. I'll be glad when the holidays are over so I feel I have more time to design and build in my new building. I have to go to town and get groceries today and start some more cooking for Thanksgiving.
I have a cookie exchange coming up very soon as well and need to start focusing on getting some cookies made for that. It has turned out to be fairly large which means I have to bake a lot more cookies than I planned.
I wanted to include this. It was sent to me by one of my customers. It made me laugh out loud.

I'm so glad I don't live in town. I really enjoy hearing my roosters.

Me and my neighbors really enjoyed hearing my roo. I miss it. I've griped before about how three roo complaints resulted in this ordinance.

I've just been busy trying to figure out Thanksgiving, and one of DH's former shift was back from Colorado so we spent some time with him. I expect to be going into full-freakout mode real soon, so I probably won't be around until after Thanksgiving.

I'm glad it's not just mine who suddenly became pigs! On the up side, last week two of my hens finally decided to start laying again.

Yeah I saw that pic on FB, so true. First you say you're only going to have a few chickens for laying & all of the sudden you have 100 birds or more.

It's been more quiet on this thread than any time since I joined. I guess everyone is just busy right now. I've been trying to finish up the things I didn't get done before that cold blast hit. Yesterday I managed to get my main coop cleaned out, a big feat & I did it in record time. I just wanted it to start out clean for the winter & then I'll clean it again in the spring. I do the DLM so it can go about 6 months or so before I have to clean it out again. I was getting aggravated at the hens because they kept kicking the straw out of the nest boxes & it was underneath them & then a couple started laying on the floor down there. It's not like I don't have enough nest boxes, I have a 10 hole nest box in there. They only use a few of those but they're there in any case.

Today's big chore is to get my rabbit trays in the garage cleaned out, they're really bad so it's not going to be fun. I had meant to get that done before the cold blast too but ran out of time. That manure will be good for the area I want to put my garden in next spring. The chickens will pick through it & spread it out for me.

I have a million things to do and I am sitting here looking at adds and stuff. There is no way I would venture out and get in those black Friday crowds. I wonder why I even waste my time. I need to get in gear and get busy but it seems like all I have done lately is rush around. It's really cloudy and windy today. Looks like we might have a storm moving in. Oh joy!
