Consolidated Kansas

It's been quite a while since I've been on this thread.... I have a question about rabbits rather than chickens. We are wanting to add rabbits to our lil farm, I finally found holland lops close by Wichita which is about 4 hrs from us. Not ideal but couldn't find any closer. (By Garden city). Now, would you all buy off of craigslist? Or we could go to the local once a month auction tonight and see what's there? I'm unsure of what all I'm looking for, to prove a healthy vs unhealthy rabbit. We just want pets for our boys, ages 7 & 5. Thanks for any advice you have!

It's hard to find animals in the Garden City area. I'm from south of Ingalls and I've ended up gettig animals from all over. I wanted French Angora rabbits and I ended up getting my girl from the K state area altho thankfully I was able to pick her up at the Ks fair in Hutchinson. My Nigerian Dwarf goats I got from Colorado.

Wow! It's been a long time since I've been on here! I've missed you all! I've been sick and am finally feeling like I'm actually alive again. Lots of water under the bridge. We survived the cold snap altho I lost my last Aracauna when it hit. DH found him dead in the cool the next morning. :( I only have 2 SL Wyandootes left for young birds. They seem to be doing well. London is growing like a weed and is in full collector phase. He's dragging all Kinds of stuff out of our shop and around the yard. We've caught him trying to play with the cats a couple times and have had to deal with that but they're mostly able to fend for themselves. It's rainy and drizzly this evening so we had to move all the goats to different pens with better shelter. Ended up toweling them dry except for my big buck who's too stinky. Her have ruined the towel and he's pretty tough anyway. At least one of my does is huge and prego so we should be having babies early spring. I can't wait!!!!:love
Here's some recent pics of London as well as one of the magnificent sunset we were blessed with recently. :)

Thanks for posting the gorgeous pictures! I'm glad you're feeling better and back here posting. I'm sorry about the Aracauna, but glad the goats and London are doing so well.

It's a dreary, dreary day out there today. Good thing I don't have to go anywhere!

Prairie Fleur, he sure is growing. He has that definite juvenile look to him. I think of that pack rat time for Pyrs and the terrible threes in kids.
I'm glad you are finally doing better. You had such rotten luck with your birds. Hopefully in spring if you're up this way I can fix you up with some more. Maybe a little older next time. And maybe London will be working by then and not playing with birds like toys.
Cherwill, I still haven't gone shopping yet. I just can't seem to make myself get out in the crowds.
I got in on a cookie exchange this week. That was way too much work and some of those ladies should really stay out of the kitchen. I can't believe someone can screw up the flavor of a cookie that bad.
I made gingerbread chickens.

Prairie Fleur I'm glad to see you back. I'm sorry to hear you've been ill but glad you're feeling better. It looks like your pup has really grown, I hope he's doing better with the birds. It just takes time with some pups to mature & get over the puppy stage & then they're worth their weight in gold. I know mine are at this stage. Thanks for sharing the photos, I love that sunset one. I've been hurting myself again, I somehow hurt my other knee now the other day & have been suffering with that. My DH is again having to do most of my bird & animal chores right now & needless to say he's not thrilled about it. I'm hoping if I'm careful & keep resting & icing that it will resolve without any further treatment. I'm praying we all have a better year next year, I know this one has been the pits for me.

I can't wait to try again with some of the breeds I got from you, Danz! Seemed like between London and the hawks and who knows what I lost a lot of birds this summer. :(
I'm still waiting for my girls to start laying. Will they not lay until spring since they didn't start before it turned cold? I think they're at least 8 months old now. My BCMs from KS King Bee haven't started laying yet either. My older girls went into molt and at feathered out again but seem content to continue taking a break. Guess I'll just have to be patient! Lol

Thanks! Hang in there Trish! Be careful! Hope you feel better soon too. DH has been doing my chores for weeks now. I'm still not up to doing them myself. Last night it started raining and we had to move all the goats. I think I overdid it rushing around, drying them off and moving them. Sigh. Guess I'll have to break down and take a long nap. It's the last thing I really want to do but if I can't get anything done anyway what's the point, right?

Did you manage to get your Lavendar Ameraucanas sold?
