Consolidated Kansas

They sell little girl hairbands at walmart that are essentially the same thing as these. Might be easier if you need them right away. Also, @chicken danz do you have any recommendation for a good white or buff egg layer? I would like one of each, to complete my colored egg rainbow, and the spouse says they need to be good layers (I just like pretty and friendly. Haha!). Anybody else feel free to chime in also!
I love the Breda Fowl eggs (one lays pure white, the other buff) from the girls I got from @chicken danz a year or so ago. Their eggs aren't

I am in the process of hatching some silver Campine eggs that I got from @Wisher1000 . Campines lay gorgeous pure white, almost translucent eggs. My Scout (before I lost her) laid about 5 a week except for molts and really hot weather. Campines are chatty, bossy, medium to small hens, but they lay a large egg (by weight) once they get going. I have 15 eggs still perking along, and they are due in a couple of days, so I may have a pullet or two to sell once I figure them out. My plan is to keep a quad or (quint?) 5 of them for breeding next year.

I know what you mean about colors in the egg basket. I'm down to 1 EE (she lays a medium green egg), but I have 3 true Araucanas who lay blue, about 9 shades of brown the one white and one buff and the eggs are really pretty all together in the cartons.

The hair bands are way too big for baby chicks.

They make little ones for the ends of small braids and baby pig tails. They are stretchy plastic. I used them on my chicks this fall.

My Breda Fowl girls lay almost every day. I get 5 eggs a week from each of them. Keep in mind that they are not quite a year old yet, so this it a good laying time for them.

The black pullet (Lucy) lays pure white eggs, and the gray (Ethyl) one lays a slightly tinted cream egg. I was surprised, too. These pictures are a few weeks old (late fall). The roo is on the right (my dog is photobombing), and the black pullet is drinking. Her gray broodmate is in the secont pictures. They look like little raptors. I just love them. @Chicken Danz has a house chicken missing a wing that is as tame as any other housepet. (I have 5 of their eggs in the incubator. Fingers crossed that they hatch.) Danz has chicks sometimes -- not sure about right now.

@sharol , I was going to mention if you go to L&L pets they may have those little bands there for putting in dog's hair. And I am sure @venymae is right because I have seen those same bands in babies hair in the top knots. Just look at the size. They don't need to be tight but you don't want them to slide off their foot either. They also may have some bird bands at L&L that are the plastic kind for cage birds. I've never looked of course but he seems to keep a good selection of things.
Yes I love my Breda. I am behind in orders right now. Those girls really need some outside space bad. They are really too crowded. They do lay a pretty white egg. I do have one that lays an almost beige/ white egg as well but have no idea which one. The others all lay white.
For a light beige egg, I've found my jubilee lay the lightest color in the Orpingtons. And no birds seem to lay better or lay bigger eggs except maybe the brahmas. I'm filling orders on those right now as well. They are back laying good the last couple of weeks but not sure how fertility will be. I've been adding vitamins and minerals to their feed as well so hopefully things will start really improving.
I spent some time out in the building yesterday and clipped all the beaks in pens where I haven't been getting many eggs. Between adding the new calcium carbonate and clipping beaks I think I will see more eggs. I suspect some breakage and then the girls will eat the broken eggs. I still have to get busy on those outside runs soon but there is just too much else going on right now to start on that.
Luckily we escaped the rains last night and they've taken some of it out of the forecast. I am hoping to be able to get my new garden spot worked up today if DH will go get me some sand.

When I candled the Breda eggs all looked good, so I'll have 5 chicks if they all hatch if you have someone wanting them, I'd appreciate a heads up. I'll let you know in the next couple of days.

I'm going to put a saddle on my black Breda pullet. She is getting torn up by the cockerel. He isn't particularly rough, but she is his favorite (and seems to like him, too). LOL

OMG OMG OMG I have 2 pips on day 20. One of the Campine eggs and 1 Breda egg. Looking in my crystal ball, I see nothing getting done today until I have to go to town for a computer appt.

I do have some people wanting Bredas. I'll check my list and see if I could otherwise fill their orders.
Congrats on the pips. Good hatching today!!!
