Consolidated Kansas

I hope all turns out with that egg. It's exciting to read all the egg info on this sit because I have never seen eggs hatch! I hope my chickens turn out to be good moms, once they get to that age.

I agree about the eggs hatching! What fun! I'm in town, so I don't expect to hatch any, unless I get some fertilized eggs from my mom or buy some. I'll have to get rid of any roosters, though, due to city ordinances.

I guess having a clean basement is just a wish! My home stays mess all the time I'm forever thinking I'm the only person in the world with that issue in glad I'm not! This house came to us with a messy everything! I'm working my way through areas and buildings step by step. With lots of dreams of a nice clean home and out buildings. I get lost online looking at farms that are kept nice and tidy wondering how it's done. The most I shoot for on a day to day basis is a clean kitchen and even that is not ever really clean. (Well maybe when I'm home alone and the mood strikes) my 7 year old has now ODed on Popsicles and I can't send the maniac out to play! Lmao i do love the rain because I can lay down and not feel awful about working in my garden! It gives me lots of time to make todo lists I will forget all about! I'm thankful that my chickens are nice and dry the coop I have is on the other side of the goose run in a semi trailer so they stay dry and warm even if it's nasty outside.

I could have more living space in the basement if it weren't so full and I had walls up. It was finished before I bought it but had mold issues so they tore it all out. One of the problems is that there is a cystern outside and when it overflows it creeps along the wall into the basement. I've been trying for years to get some help to destroy it and fill it in. Hasn't happened yet. I want to fill in the bottom part then get some big equipment in here to smash the top part so I can level the ground above it. I can't even consider finishing the basement until that is done. Also I need to replace some tile sewer pipe with plastic cause the tile is letting water seep back in and flood back into the clean out in the basement. Everything takes money I don't have.
The four eggs that my broody abandoned last Saturday to attack the other broody's chicks are hatching. I almost threw them out Tuesday, but I candled them and could see movement. 3 of the 4 are hatched and big healthy chicks -- 1 Jubilee 2 color mix English Orpingtons (from Danz's lines). The 4th is pipped at the wrong end and cheeping. I picked at the pip (it has been 12 hours, but there was a tiny bit of blood so I put it back in the incubator. I'd like to help, but that doesn't usually turn out well for me. (maybe 50/50). Tomorrow before daylight, I'm going to try to get these under the Araucana that is setting on eggs due early next week, and then put her eggs in the incubator.

The white orp had her 2 babies out in the yard today. When the storm moved in, I scooped them up (much to her displeasure) and put them back in the coop. Of course she followed them back in. I have them in a fabric pen with a top that is inside the big coop to protect them from the other hens and to confine her when she gets aggressive with hens wanting to come in to lay.
Wow You are really producing the chicks this year. I need to get some more moved and some counts done and see what I can get sold around here. I just keep hatching along! I'm about the end of geese hatching and the peafowl are starting to hatch. I've got a ton of turkeys and really need to get some sold. Last year I couldn't hatch them fast enough. You just never know.
I have tried uploading pictures, but simply can not.
Not sure what you are doing there. There's a little icon at the top that has what appears to be mountains and a sun. Just click on that and you should be able to load up photos.

We had more storms last night. Also I see they've got rain still forecast for every day through next Friday. Same as last week. Really??? Enough already!!!

That is weird. Maybe that part of the system is down right now. I do know I've had a couple that weren't accepted if they were too large a file. Are you converting them to JPG before you try to post them?

I hope everyone is okay this morning and hasn't blown away. We had quite the wind storm yesterday and got 0.43" of much-needed rain! II sent my hubby out to take care of a small branch that was resting on our garden shed (originally not far above the shed). Come to find out, the branch had broken in 2 places and I was seeing the smaller of the two. Figures! Here's a pic of the bigger of the two breaks on that limb. This was only one of multiple branches down. We lost the tops out of a couple of trees (one cedar and one mulberry) and numerous other branches. Guesstimated wind gusts of 80mph.

I have to laugh at .43 inches. If this keeps up I'm afraid our totals will be more like 43.00 inches. Exaggeration of course, but if the rain doesn't stop soon it isn't going to matter what the total rain fall is. Too much is way too much.
