Consolidated Kansas

It was so cold today (in the 20's) that we left our girls in the coop. 14 eggs! That's the best EVER!

With the 8 inches of snow coming tomorrow - and it being their 2nd day in the coop - I'm hoping for 15!

Bring on the snow!!!

LOL! I hope you get 15 eggs tomorrow.

I plugged in the heat lamp yesterday in the big coop, the little one has 5 big chickens in it, so they should be ok.

So far so good in my coop. With the 26 bodies in there and it being fairly well insulated and dug down a foot into the ground - so far so good.

I am really really happy that the water isn't frozen in there. This is our first year/first winter with the girls and I didn't know if I'd have to buy a heater or heated waterer or not - but everybody was happy and thawed tonight - and it was 19 warm degrees outside.

After a silly little conversation with a cousin from Oklahoma, I got to wondering how many of us have "OZ" stories. You know - you go somewhere and when people find out you're from Kansas they go into "Wizard of Oz" mode.

Years ago when I was in Atlanta for some training courses, a guy from Pennsylvania would always squeal "Auntie Em, Auntie Em" every time he saw me. I didn't know what the heck he was talking about, or why anyone else would think he was funny. Annoying, to say the least.

Anyone else?

I was in Alabama last fall and a lady from Florida made some wisecrack about us Kansans being from the Land of Oz. She also was saying how she'd rather be in a hurricane than a tornado.
I told her I'd rather see it coming acrossed the prairie and be able to go to the basement as compared to evacuating for higher ground....

Don't those hurricanes spin off tornados so they have both to deal with?

When I lived in Colorado I was always asked where ToTo was.

Welcome Barnswallow! I am in Wichita so not so far from OK.

Anyone planning on traveling for Christmas? I will be going down to DFW the weekend before. Hope it is warmer there.

SO true! I couldn't come up with a smart remark at the time. I was so shocked at the comment!
On another subject - it's 5 out and my 6 guineas have decided that they want to spend the night in the trees - the first time in their lives - and the first time they've seen snow. And I guess the first time it's probably going to be 0 out.

Hope they are okay....I haven't heard any good stories about this I don't think.
