When I wrote my comment I was thinking of the awesome thunderheads in summer skys. Thank you all for bringing back the memories of sunsets and moonrises. ( Ah! what fantastic pictures!) In addition I had dinner with friends last night, and desert was the starscape. Constelations shooting stars and the Milkyway! Country life: can you beat it?

State Fair is under way. Poultry Show was on Sat. I snapped a bunch of pics, so if there's any requests, let me know. The GR CH over the show was a BO. I think I got semi decent pics of most of champion row.

Krispy Kreme Burger anyone?

I plan to go to the fair Saturday - will have to look at the chickens first thing,... of course

Then let the kids spend all my money - then eat lots of junk... and then ... look at all the cool stuff in the buildings...

then look at the chickens again... in case I missed one.

I went to the fair on Fri and then again today. Today I was able to see the poultry. That buff Orp Cockeral that won best of show was gorgeous! I thought there were some nice ones, and then there were the EE's that were being shown as Ameraucanas.

I loved the Sebs!

We didn't look at them all. My 2 yr old was out of the stroller.

I did not try the krispy kreme burger...was it any good?

I think the only Ameraucanas there are the 2 my DS has entered. I don't mind they weren't DQed, but I'm a bit miffed DS's were downgraded to place under them. Especially since there was an incident with one that caused some tail feather loss. The ones that really got me were the 2 EEs entered as Araucanas.

If I remember correctly, almost all the Sumatra pullets are cockerels and young ones at that. DS got Best AOSB for his, but it was starting to molt, so I imagine it's quite a site by now.

The kids took 6 birds and all 6 placed. Even so, I found the judging a bit lacking. Be sure to show your little one my DD's Silkies. They're the nice ones.

The Krispy Kreme burger was eh, just okay. We didn't put any ketchup or anything else on it. It was messy enough on it's own. Not worth the $7 or $7.50 once you add the bacon and cheese. We'll be trying the fried dill pickle spears next time.

LOL - I have enough trouble surviving the fair without gaining 50 pounds - I am just going to stay away from the krispy kreme burger. I think I'll probably eat something just as fattening though... and pray I walk off the calories.

I have noticed that since I got my chickens - I have lost 20 pounds... guess it's all that walking over to the coop and back - and cleaning it - and ... chasing the lil fart rooster that keeps getting out...

I think my roo is finally seeing the light... took my dad into the coop to show him how things are - and figured I should watch the roo because of a stranger - that he might get cocky again... he walked ove r- I said "NO" and he walked away - didn't bug us at all. I may have a decent bird worth keeping. Hope so - he sure takes care of the girls ... He's a golden laced wyandotte... and my girls are golden comets (i think- TSC) - so could make some interesting chick colors....

I was wearing a pair of those exercise/rocker shoes that I would have sworn while they are comfortable as all get out when you're on your feet all day, do nothing by way of working out/toning your legs and rear.

After 10 hours of back and forth from the 4-H complex and the poultry barn,

I more than walked off my portion of the burger. My rear and backs of my thighs were so sore, I could barely walk the next 2 days.

Hello All,
I am a Newbie here from Ozawkie, Ks.
I am also new to the raising of farm birds. I picked up today 14 birds 6 Guinea, and 8 Chukars. I am very excited about these lil' guys and can't wait till they grow up.
I look forward to learning much more about these fowl, and look to get some more birds, like chickens and ducks.

Yeah CarolAnn it was Timberlake Ranch and then they changed names to Bar something ranch-didnt go to it this last time, I just ran in Guy and Maes on the way back from Arnolds and running down to Braums in Emporia and stocking up
