If they are fully feathered, you might be able to get away with transitioning them during this 'warm' snap we are having. I would be prepared to offer the additional heat if the temp goes much lower at night, though. Don't want to shock the babies.

Lovin' the warm snap. DH said it's supposed to end for us this weekend or early next week.

I've put out younger birds...3wks meatbirds, no heat lamp and covered tractor....some 3 wks recently but in unheated coop. No heatlamp, but they have their mother for that. Be careful with the heatlamp that everythings all secure. Don't want to start a fire.

Hmmm....it would be funny if we got our from the same place as I also have some 9-10 week olds. They've been outside since they were 7 weeks old, in an unheated coop and doing fine.

Welp looks like I have some more bad news.

i found one dead and another laying on its side with its toes curled an twitching its head radicly. So I had to put him down. Now it looks like a waiting game too see how many more will follow.
Next time I order babies they will be vaccinated for sure. On a good note I have come across a few leads on the lil ass hats that shot my two birds. I will be visiting them tomorrow. It appears they have been bragging alot........ I knew id get them lil' F*#*#rs

So sorry about this run of luck...Good luck with your visit tomorrow. I second taking law enforcement or at the very minimum an individual to be a witness to what happens. If they are willing to come into your yard and shot "just a chicken", I wouldn't put it past them to try other things or after the visit to accuse you of harassment or violence. Document in writing and pictures what is going on.

Daren if you have any resonable evidence do take the police. You have a lot to loose if you start thumping some kid in front of their parents on their property. The police can cause more hurt on the kids than you.
Just my advice.
Sorry your loosing birds. Check all the comforts like food water and heat.

Yes, call the police. I know they are the ones that said, "It's just a chicken," but you REALLY want them on your side in a situation like this. Remember to stay calm, no matter what. Best of luck to you and please let us know how things go.

I've had some experience with lawbreakers... worse than this. After several years of battle we have had a good outcome. If interested, PM me and I will tell you the story. It is too long to put here, and maybe not appropriate for this thread.

Good luck.

Sent my 5 young ducks off to the butcher today. Sorta sad not sure how to explain. Just hate to see the fear and confusion in animals you care about. Its tough to think about them watching their bros and hens getting killed until they get grabbed up for their final turn. I am grately thankful I have friends who will do the killing and processing. I am looking forward to roast duck. Just hating the memory of looking into the rear view mirror as I drove them in my truck to my friends house. I know its a little sappy; must be that adult beverage. The value is that they got the best of care and love I could provide until today. I am sure its much better than many of the other animals we eat. I am sure there are many other things to talk about than my sap so have a great day all.
I am saying a prayer that Daren lets grace guide him and not rage!
