Ok, Chookschick,
I took your advice and bought some suet cakes at the Walmart in Paola. A box of 8 was $7. We'll see how they like it tomorrow when I get up.
Since they are pretty used to me bringing them goodies, I expect they will gobble it up before knowing what it really is!

Update; the birds love the suet! Going to try calling Family Center and Circle C to see if they carry or will order the Ultra-Kibble for me. Mad at myself for forgetting to grab some red pepper flakes at Walmart last night

I have my sap spigot on order - I get the impression it is supposed to be time to do this soon... as a newby I will have fun learning this new stuff.

also going to get some more wine yeast tonight so I can try some new wine recipes.... Found this great book at the library ... : ) I plan to practice on apples and stuff to get the technique perfected before I harvest my blackberries and pears this summer... This gal even has a recipe for some veggie wines - might be fun to try... lol - wonder if that would be considered a serving of veggies.... lol

The possum must have decided that the dinner wasn't worth the trouble - he hasn't been back yet. Of course it has caused many a sleepless nights - I go out every morning worried what I will find. I have my rooster pretty muchly trained that when he hears me coming to the coop and I yell his name - he'll crow - so I know at least he's okay.

My girls will be left alone this weekend - hoping that If i stock them up on food and water Saturday morning they will be okay until Sunday afternoon. This will be the first time I have left them overnight - but the dog will be in the coop with them lol Now I have to hope the stupid rooster doesn't attack the dog too much - sooner or later that dog is gonna get fed up with it - but he is amazingly patient. The rooster is slowing down a bit - I think I may have a good boy eventually - and that he may be smart enough to realize the dog isn't a foe

Well it’s going to be spring again soon and I'm still not done getting my horse fence done. I've decided that in the long run its going to be cheaper for me to just install an electric fence around the pasture for my horses. If I save $200 a month by getting this done ASAP then it will be a lot better.

Any of you BYC people know where a good yet cheep dealer for electric fence is? Somewhere within say an hour and a half of Kansas city or Ottawa even!

Solar chargers don't effect your electric bill but with my experience they don't "zap" as good especially when you get a few years on them and they must be out in the elements
The pulg-in type "zap" better and you can keep them out of the weather but if you have a power outage..well its usually not a problem once your horses are use to the fence


We run the flexible "hot" wire but I don't rember the brand "its yellow"..just stay with the recommended gauge the charging unit calls for.

I have always got mine at Orschlen's and TSC when they run a sale and they are good with honoring warranties, but I would call Dreslers in Tonganoxie, and Feldmans in Bonner springs for some pricing but the drive usually isn't worth it

*also make sure you know how many feet you need to charge when you go pricing the unit*
