Do you find that you like to prestart your plants or just seed in the ground? I will be starting my first garden this year and have an area that is 20 X 40 feet to till. We have good dark soil with a mix of sand in it. I really have no idea how to start but I know we have big plans and I'm sure the size of this will grow rather fast!
Here is how I see it: some plants do better just buying the plants like tomatoes and brocoli. Other plants like corn, peas and potatoes need to be planted in the ground as seeds. The value of a green house or window is that you can try new varities of flowers or vegetables and get them started early. I will do parsly in several varities and some greens and many flowers and herbs. One 6-pack is about the price of one pack of seed. Today its harder and harder to get even a 6-pack. Bonnie plants sells one plant for the price of two or more 6-packs/seeds. If you have the time and light it pays to do your own.
the value of my green house is that I can try new things each year and get a jump on the cool season plants (cruciferous brocclii cabage, collards etc) and try new things before I can plant. I recomend that you plant both plants and seed for the pure pleasure of gardening. Mulch well, weed often; involve the whole family in all aspects, as it is the healtyist future any American can persue!
AH! and to roll some sliced zuccinii into a hot skillet with onions and other green garden vegies that you your-self grew with seasonings and some sause or meat is heaven. Served with rice or tosted bread ::::: Its life! can you tell I am a fat man?
