Consolidated Kansas

I just cut the legs off hubby's most ragged pair of jeans to staple over the top of the people door of the coop to stop snow from blowing in. Some might still come in but it won't blow over the feed bins and floor. As soon as I can I'll find something better but for now it's good. Also tossed in a couple flakes of straw for them to scratch and huddle in. I got 13 eggs from my 25 girls so I can't complain. I sure feel better since I stopped worrying about the girls so much. Even the bare butts are doing fine.

we are on the edge and were only to get 2-4" but that blowin wind has made some giant drifts. I have a cedar row on the north side of my house and one coop is south of the house but there is a walkway between the coop and an old garage and it has just blown up through there. I put strawbales around the banties run to block snow and wind and it has helped. Oh I hate this weather

Wouldn't ya know. Hubby got the new 4 WD Jeep stuck in an 8 foot snow drift. Just gotta see what all it can do. I knew he was feeling bulletproof when he left for work. I wouldn't have even gone (in fact I didn't go to work tonight.) Anyway, he luckily got a ride back into town and is spending the night with a co worker. He won't be able to get here until they plow, which will probably be Thursday at the earliest.

The power was out for a while. With that wind blowing over this hill, things started to cool off in a hurry. Fortunately the power is back on and everything is okay. I am NOT looking forward to doing chores in the morning!

After my gracful fall yesterday morning at 4am I cant move my arm today. .......... LOVELY!

Ivy,
Glad your power is back on. I noticed that we are under a dangerous wind advisery

I have not heard that hear since 1983 when we had a wind chill of -40 below our regular temps were -20 below. I remember this so well because De Soto, KS was on the news for it we were the only town that still had school.......lol. It didnt last very long we went home two hours after we got there.

Wow id say its pretty dam cold out there. I just came in from feeding and watering the pheasant pen, and noticed that my Ring Teal. Had ice hanging off their feathers. Poor things so i brought them in to thaw out their lil' feet had ice on them as well not real bad but still.

I had the pen covered pretty good, but must of had a pretty good wind to blow one corner off.
Any how gonna warm up then ski my way to the chickens. Im a bit worried because I haved heard a peep from the ducks or the roosters.

The problem with bringing them in to warm up, the cold is even harder on them when you take them back outside. My call ducks often have some ice hanging off them after they get out of the water, but it doesn't seem to phase them. They groom it off themselves and go on about their business.

I would....they're better off out in the sun than inside.

Well i will have to knock off all the snow and take down all the wind blocks for the sun to get in.

Sun or no sun...they'll still be better off outside.......ducks have a built in down coat. If they were mine I'd put them back out.
