my MIL helped get 1/2 my garden planted. So that is good. I lost all my baby chicks on Friday so now I need to figure out what I want to do, get some from Orscheln's I know I want green egg layers some blue egg layers and some dark chocolate layers but i know the last one I can't get from a feed store. I don't have an incubator or a broody so hatching eggs is out for now. I am just so frustrated right now. Does any one have any ideas Its only 9am and I need a nap.

I killed my first coyote of the year this morning! My neighbor had a pair behind their house Saturday morning but I got there too late. So this morning I got back there about 6:30 and played Lil Rabbit distress on my e-call. 15 minutes later the female was about 15 yards out but the big male held up at 30 or so. One shot from my 12 gauge took care of the girl but that boy took off before I could line him up, oh well, 1 down a million to go!

No rain here so have to water the garden today. Guess I will finish tilling also. Will plant the beans today and another row of okra. Love okra in summer stir frys and soups all year long.
soved my silky sitting problem.

She was determined to sit where she was; so I took her one egg and gave her 5 welsummers.

She wiggled right down on them.

But later she was a foot away sitting on what she could.

Fixed her a little spot inches from where she was, that she could have a depression to sit in.

Now the question is how many eggs can a banty sit, if a banty wants to sit eggs?

Mike, my banties could never really fit over 5 eggs properly. I have one lil one too sitting in the doghouse. Almost all the eggs were rotten except the one I murdered. Trying to help, put a little bowl in there with food, bowl flipped over on two eggs, and one just happened to be the only good one, was stoney cold and dead in the process of pipping, had its lil beak out already. She couldnt sit on it or flip bowl over as she was so little. Only one that was good. I just yesterday put a goose egg under her. Hope she sits for it, but I keep finding her in spots like 5 inches over as well. Maybe she is a little retarded.

Want some of those goose eggs to hatch, I ruined everything, thermomoeter not right and temps way off. Makes me sick, I had at least 20 duck and goose eggs and they all went bad. Even my own chicken eggs didnt hatch, and I can mess up pretty bad and still get them to hatch. I need to get out and buy a new therm but not really in my budget right now. Phoooey One of the gals was kind enuff to let me retry on African geese eggs, not trying for sebbies again as I almost cried knowing I messed them up and killed em. Rifht now I have WH duck eggs and African goose eggs in.

I love okra too, not many folks like it in this area. You guys must have it a bit warmer if you planting your okra already. We just got tomatoes and hardy stuff in the stores this week. As of Friday there was nothing, was told coming in this week anyhow.
I always grow some. I have some heritage okra seeds and boy what a difference in them compared to our normal plants.

Got the grand niece staying with us, she is five. Worn out. phew....

For anyones information, if you have never cleaned a year old peacocks behind of pasty butt, well lemme tell ya, its quite a job.

Planted the okra now because it takes two weeks to germinate. Hope to have it up after last frost. Suppose to possible freeze this weekend here.
Worked outside all day yesterday way sore. Didnt get in till dark or almost. Trimmed trees, removed old weeds ; wow spring is just about full blown here. From here on out there is never enough time.
Thanks for the advice on the silky I may take what she has away and give her just 3 new ones since she now has a small nest or depression to sit in. 3 is better than none. She is so cute looking down at her the way she sits its hard to tell head from tail. Every one should have one silky in their flock.
